are the hubs of the brakes on a standard uno different from the turbo ones, for example if i get the turbo size discs will the calipers fit fine or will it not due to bigger discs?

Cheers
Dale

I'm fairly sure the hubs on the turbo are different from the standard Uno. I think they're bigger, plus don't forget the driveshafts are unique to the turbo too.

Turbo discs are thicker because they're vented (standard Uno discs are solid). Standard calipers will NOT work with turbo discs as they're not wide enough, plus the the turbo calipers are of a slightly different design as they use sliding pins instead of sliding wedges.

i am getting the turbo calipers and perfornance discs for a turbo.

so id have to get new driveshafts (turbo ones), and the hubs yeah?

I think so. From what I remember, the turbo calipers bolt onto the hubs whereas the non turbo calipers fit via a carrier bracket. The turbo driveshafts I think are thicker so would need bigger hubs to fit. You need one of the turbo boys to confirm this as I'm not that clued up on the exact specifics of the turbo models

im watching the shafts on ebay and i am having the calipers off that guy too i messaged him yesterday(y)
calipers front and rear for 25 smackers

im going for the total conversion engine and all (y)

got an engine lined up off vern.

can't wait to fit it in and have a lot more power than my 1.1 ha.

insurance is gonna be a killer as this is still my first year of driving

If you've got all four calipers (and they're useable) for £25 then that is an absolute steal! Make sure you get all fittings and try and get the hubs too.

Don't forget that for the rear discs and calipers you need the turbo rear beam axle and handbrake assembly. You can't just bolt them up to a non turbo beam axle unfortunately.

BTW, wouldn't it be easier/ cheaper to try and get a complete but rotten UT and simply swap everything over? It will probably work out cheaper than buying the bits individually

I'm not so sure..

I think the rear beam is the same, all you need are the calliper mointing brackets as well as the callipers and and carriers. I been told they bolt up. I ain't don it my self so can't confirm. yes the handbrake cables are diferent at the calliper end. I wonder how the cento lot go on as their standard cables are all like the non calliper uno ones.

I have a spere MK2 dash in black you can have (Free) as I need the space (y) I'm Northwich way :) but I'm not posting it lol. I have a few other odds and sods from the rusted MK2 I broke the other year.

That's interesting Louie! I was under the impression that the trailing arms of the UT beam axle were different to be able to take the calipers, but I guess it is probably just the brackets/ hubs that are different. Still, unless Daleyboy10 has access to all these extra parts it's going to be a headache trying to convert a standard axle to UT specification. Hence my suggesting that he may be best off looking for a rotted but complete car to convert his FIRE engined model.

Anyone got a rusted mk1 UT with good mechanicals? I still quite fancy a 70SX sleeper...

louie i will have that dash off you :D
is it in good condition?

i could pick it up next weekend if thats alright?
only an hour and 20 mins from my mrs house(y)

and btw i was told by wayne today that the discs just bolt on to the original hub of my car so it's a straight swap as he has done it before.

i was comparing my uno turbo trailing arm and my 1L they exactly same except onbv the mountings for brakes etc!
and Dale good to know you puttin in the turbs engine :)
i got mine to come out of uno turbo and going in my 1L next year :D

i need help!
i put the back lowering kit on to find out how low it would sit and oh dear it was low.

seems as though 15s were a bad idea ha.

i couldn't go over a stone without it scraping so iv took them off and out the original springs back in.

what is the best/quickest and easiest way to solve it.
i hear of the arch trimming and rolling, but i don't know how to do it so if there is a guide to do it that would be great.

but i was thinking of downgrading to the original turbo alloys maybe....

because even if i make it so i can use my car without rubbing, i cannot have anymore than 1 person in it and i cant wang it round corners.

any ideas?

i have decided to go to a 35mm drop, saving hassle with arches and means i can put my wheel arch trims on.

i as i want it to be practical aswell.
so now i have some what i think are 60mm lowering springs for sale.

message me about them if anyone wants to buy them.

Dale

i know some people have no problem dropping them a fair bit, but it sprung to mind that it aint gonna be too practical as i am going on holiday and taking the car and i only own this car so if theres a problem i either have to put something back to how it was or do a quick fix.

the drop at the back i did looked like the pics,
which looks great. but i couldnt go over a stone or slight turn without rubbing.
when i got my wheels the place i got them from rang up wolfrace and said that they are going on an uno and everything was ok.

also i guess having strut braces would help with the roll, but i do need my car to be a bit more practical. so a slight but good looking drop is what im gonna go for.
if i had another car i would of kept it that low and done work on the arches but i dont so im buggered.

but im currently looking at the 35mm drops to see what it will look like.

atm i am fitting my arch trims and side skirts so dropping it will have to wait a little while(probably til next week)

cheers for all the advice

also i guess having strut braces would help with the roll

Strut braces give rigidity to the body shell, they have no effect on body roll. To reduce roll you can fit stiffer springs and/ or a turbo anti-roll bar.

A 35mm drop is practical for every day use but 60mm will run into problems with speed bumps and will probably knock your fillings out driving on pot holed UK roads :p

Sounds to me though that your offset may not be correct as Dunc pointed out. What size tyres are you running on your 15's?

i think 35mm at the mintue is thr sensible choice:D

on the tyre it says 195/45/15

what offset should they be?
