Hi people,
i have a 1992 tipo and the oil warning light seems to come when i go round corners and if i break hard or accelerate hard, i have enogh oil in it any ideas what could be causing it and how i could sort it.

Cheers people

oil was changed about 2000 miles ago and it was doing it before then, i was hoping the change would sort it but sadley no

My one was doing this... but it was actually low on Oil.

Maybe the bit that measures the oil has moved or is loose a moving about.

Hopefully the connection is on the outside of the Gasket and you can fiddle with the connections or easily replace it from a scrapies.

The oil pick-up pipe on the Tipo is alloy and is very close to the bottom of the sump. If the sump has hit something e.g. speed ramps the pick-up can crack but not break off. The engine works normally but when the oil in the sump moves like when the car corners the crack opens, air is drawn in, oil pressure drops and the oil light comes on. In my case the pick-up had been cracked while the sump had been removed or fitted

how serious is this, think they will pick it ip on an MOT?

well now you put it like that!!!

Its possible that it may have i'd have guessed it would leak oil if this was the case

Not always. My father in laws sedici took off from one hump and landed on the upside of the hump after. bottomed out the suspension and bashed the gearbox/sump. No leaks but a lot of scrapes! Testement to the strength of the car that it didn't banana!

so if its this which is possible would it fail an MOT because of it?

ummm, MOT is on monday car runs fine and sounds smoother than it ever has at the minute so i guess oil is getting round the engine

Don’t know what way it will go with the mot. I had the problem for a good while before I sorted it without any major problems But oil pressure sensors come on when the pressure is very low (practically none) low oil pressure is never good. If the pick up breaks off completely things could get very messy

well it failed but not because of the oil issue, needed some new brake hose apparently it was badly corroded, £117 for that lot and the MOT. New exhaust a couple of weeks ago bloody things getting expensive, its not getting this treatment next year thats for sure. Hopefully ill have a bravo HGT by then anyway
