well i havent really done much on the xbox scene lately but............

my main xbox was playing up and eventually died
did a fresh install on the hard drive(this ones chipped) and installed all the apps etc
XBMC is set up as the dash
i used to use UPnPfor shares with vista
idiot proof(or so i thought!) really as it auto discovers the vista PC on the network
however whilst its finding the PC its not showing my shared drives
nothings changed on the PC and the xbox 360 still see's all the shared folders fine.
tried installing the newest XBMC but still the same.any ideas?

Oh sounds good - may have to source it in (y)

Have only just sorted out my Vista build here, so will have to see if it picks up the folders.

you mean you guys don't have iplayer on xbmc? :p

as for shares.. dunno... guessing you have password protected shares turned off in visa?

yup,as i said they work fine via the 360 and nothings changed on the PC
before my xbox threw a hissy fit and did the reinstall it all worked fine.
now only the 360 see's the shares but the xbox with XBMC does see the vista PC,it just doesnt see the shared drives/folders

iplayer? oh you mean the service already suppled in my cable package :p

right fired up my laptop(runnning windows 7) and spare PC (running windows 7).both are on wifi through the same router which is wifi to the vista PC and wired to the xbox's
both of these show on the xbox but again the xbox doesnt see any shared folders etc
both of these also show the shared folders on the main vista PC however the vista PC cant see them
this is probably because ive set up homegroup sharing on the windows 7 PC's and its somehow not working for the vista PC?
think i'll have to try an older XBMC to test

I just keep my old Xbox running XBMC on my 'portable' 36" CRT TV in my bedroom, which is hooked up to a PS2 and DVD player as well - at least I can stream my .avis up to it from the network. It only gets used when the kids are over...

You don't want to know about my main setup ;)

FATX isn't the best file system in the world, my drive is a bit screwed. how did you clear the drive? suggest sticking it a PC and nuking the partition table and then using slayer etc to rebuild it.

I should have talked to you guys before buying my 13yr old an x-box. Thought you just had to plug it in to tv and off you go - but NO! Need 60hz to play a game and my 5yr old tv is only 50hz! Now 13 yr old is grumpier than normal. Gonna have to put my independent streak to one side and find a man in the know!

Have you bought a old xbox or a 360? On the the old black xbox the 50/60hz setting can be changed in the dashboard (boot it up with no cd). The newer 360 a lot of games only support 60hz unfortunately.

Thank you Dan. ;) I brought a brand new one from Game on Weds for him. From what I have learned from the internet today its the game that needs 60HZ (Gears of War 2). Looks like I am going to have to get a new TV but have a friends husband coming round tonight to have a look. All this technology is too much for me! :bang:

right im back
finally got a chance to fire in an old IDE drive
did a reinstall and xbmc now see's the shared drives :woot:

however its still not seeing all the shared files
used to be XBMC saw everything
rar'd files,iso's etc
now its seeing most files but not all.its not showing the folder at all
i cant really see a pattern to those that arent showing
one that isnt showing was a rar but even extraced to an iso it didnt show
however when burned to disc it plays fine on the xbox
