Sure did get one. Incredible machine, especially with a good HD TV. Games look stunning.
I looked at that link Custard put up, comparing XBOX to XBOX360 games - and no doubt an HDTV is imperative....

I will wait - I have a PS2 that collects dust, so may take a view next year once the PS3 is out. TBH, I spend most of the time on a PC now  BUT if I can do the whole lot via these next gen machines :chin:

Isn't the 360 supposed to be complimentary to the PC, and all linked via wifi?

yup you can wifi to the pc or via cable.basically there trying to cover most of the aspects that made a chipped xbox so attractive

The 360 looks a beast, but I'm holding out for the PS3. One reason: Gran Turismo 5! :D Until then, my PC, old-skool Playstation and Sega Master system  will have to do.

So basically I have a PC in the front room, hard-wired into a wifi router [which I use for the laptop].

I then get a next-gen console, stick it under my TV in the lounge?! This then means I can surf from that room, plus pick up shared folders on my PC, etc. - so my music collection on my PC could be played via the XBOX, which would be routed through my normal TV and 5.1? Or not?

I like this idea of being complimentary to each other.

I'm not sure how good the 360 looks on normal TVs, does anyone run one on a standard none HD TV ?

This image here is from from Project Gotham 3 running on a HD TV, and it really is as good as it looks, and you must remember this game was made on very early developement kits and from what I am hearing it only uses about one third of the 360's power. The second wave of games will blow all of this away.
The company I work for have made it clear to me that graphically I can go to town with the levels I am doing.

wow thats such a difference. (y)

KoA, mr sporting has his on a standard TV but wants a HD TV.

now i can see why, tempted to use the new toy but he at work :chin:

but i have a custom designed car on need for speed MW and want to use it :p

50 quid a game is scandolous though
I can see where you're coming from but at the same time the production costs of games has gone up through the roof, especially with next gen machines like this. The extra time it takes to create something like this is why the games are highly priced. But saying that, you can buy them online for £39.99 so 40 quid aint bad.
Microsoft have to get their cut of the profits on each game as well as the producers, and then there's not a lot left for the people that actually do all the years of hard work on a masterpiece.
Consider that you pay £15 for a new DVD release and it's a 2 hour film. Maybe you'll watch it 3 times by the time you are bored of it so you'll get 6 hours of entertainment from your £15.
The Average game is around 20 hours long so £39.99 doesn't seem that bad to me considering it can take around 2-5 years to make a game with anything from a couple of people to over a hundred people working on it, then it's good value for money.(y) In my unbiased opinion of course

little bit off info

A Chicago man who bought Microsoft Corp.'s new Xbox 360 has sued the world's largest software maker, saying the new video game console has a design flaw that causes it to overheat and freeze up.

The proposed class action claims that in Microsoft's bid to gain share in the $25 billion global video game market, the company was so intent on releasing the Xbox 360 before competing next-generation machines from Sony Corp. and Nintendo Co Ltd. that it sold a "defectively designed" product.
Robert Byers, who brought the suit, said the power supply and central processing unit in the Xbox 360 overheat, affecting heat-sensitive chips and causing the console to lock up.

The lawsuit, filed on Friday in federal court in Illinois, seeks unspecified damages and litigation-related expenses, as well as the replacement or recall of Xbox 360 game consoles.
Microsoft representatives were not immediately available for comment on Monday.

and for the big brother o phobes

Now no doubt Microsoft has this totally covered in its Terms and Conditions that you have to agree to when you sign up for an Xbox LIVE account, but did you know just how much information Microsoft shares with other Xbox 360 owners about what you're doing? Simply put, anyone you've been in contact with through Xbox LIVE can subsequently see what you're up to, regardless of whether they're in your friends list or not.

We here at HEXUS became a little anxious when the boss sent me a voice message over Xbox LIVE asking what I was doing viewing pictures through Media Connect instead of playing games on my Xbox 360. I assumed he'd made a lucky guess as he knew I was still playing around with the Xbox 360's media functions, using Media Connect to view stored family photos from my main PC. What I didn't realise was that he could actually see what I was doing as it was being relayed over Xbox LIVE and showing up in my profile!

If you were playing games, it'd be understandable to have your profile on display, showing what games you'd played, how far you'd gotten in them, what reputation you had etc etc... All of this info is in your gamer card and relevant to online gaming in general. Where Microsoft crosses the line is when you're not gaming. Your Xbox 360 will carry on happily reporting everything you're up to...

lol that's the beauty of microsoft, always willing to share, as long as it's not theirs that they are sharing eh :D

That law suit is just outright stupidness  people will do anything for a quick buck it's getting pathetic. If they recalled all the 360's then they wouldn't get mine :slayer: I have used mine for 6-8 hours continuously without any sign of a heat problem, and no it wasn't me playing it all that time, I have kids :D

I got my 360 on launch day

Brief Summary

Quite possibly best controller ever

Graphics are stunning, even on a crappy wee 14" portable TV, getting a VGA Cable soon as possible though

No problems or faults with mine ATALL, because Im not technically inept:D

btw gotham does look like that, even better in motion, and all the launch games are single threaded, the 360's cpu has 3 cores, I cant remember if it can do 3 or 6 simultaneous threads though, I think its 3, either way, theres ALOT more to be seen believe you me
