Technical Won't start

This morning I drove about 5 minutes parked at shops. Went in there for about 10 minutes. Didn't leave the lights on. When I went to start it it wouldn't. It just kept trying to tick over. I turned the key off and back to ignition and it tried starting itself with no luck. Does this sound like the starter motor or something else. thanks

It's a Grande punto diesel 1.3 mjet

Could be:

1) Bad Earth
2) Starter Motor
3) Failing/Dead Battery
4) Alternator not charging battery/dead-dying alternator.

Best have it checked out asap given we are into the winter now mate.

Thanks mate. Had breakdown come look at it. Got it going with jump leads.

Said it's not starter motor nor alternator he said it could just be that as I only travel about 5 miles to work the car wasn't having a long enough drive. So I am off out for a good blast and see if that works.
