Technical Woj's turbo project

Technical Woj's turbo project

Well mate, that really depends on so many factors. When/how the shell will eventally give in, whether I will be living in a different place (my current housing situation prevents me from doing anything major), etc. etc. I also think about a totally different project based on a different car. As much as I love my cinq I had it with the lack of space under the bonnet :bang: Will see (y)

One my friend buyed a Cinq Sporting few days ago, I never see how's the situation under the hood. Oh guys, you all are heroes that put additional stuff in it  (y) The space is very very little (almost like in modern cars (n)), if compared to my Punto 75 with no powersteering and A/C (and I still would like more). And now I understand how crazy is Craigb heheheh :D

Woj you abbandon Fiats too?

It's sad to give away a car because of the shell, it's for the rust? Fiat's aren't good on this, you should live in Italy, no snow no salt on the roads no rust :D

Craig's crazy? Have a look at some of these pictures:

Not sure if I abandon Fiats altogether. I recently though of perhaps making something nice out of a Fiat Uno, problem is that they are very rare in NL (only three for sale on the nation wide site). On the other hand, getting a decent Cinq shell should still not a problem here.

One thing is for sure, something I forgot to mention in my previous post, before I get on with any new project I promised myself I will find my way around welding. Not being able to do it is major handpicap.

Dove in Italia, pero? Or are you trying to bankrupt the Italian tourist industry, lo sci?

Even Ducati's publicity stuff shows Bologna in the snow, and it really, really snows in Turin. And in Poland..............

Could you get an Uno from Belgium or Germany (or further!), or is it too difficult to export older cars like that, or you're too far from the borders to make it worthwhile?

Yes, you're right - I live near Rome, and here snow is some kind of rare natural disaster hehe :D

Uno project is good thing, that old look, if with right touches can get really really great looking, I like 80s cars with "right" mods :)

I actually live almost on the German border, so that would not be a problem. What I am concerned about is owning a car that is not popular and a pain to get spare parts etc. But I must admit I have a thing for a Uno, my parents used to own one. The space, man, the space is just incredible  You can just put any size engie and then build a proper tabular exhaust manifold, and then a huge turbo and then an even bigger IC. Possibilities are endless, and electrics simple as in Cinq :D :D

Epic build, that! Only critiscism possible is that it's in a Sei! ;)

And it should run any day now :) Worry not Fingers, there is a serious t-jet Cinq being built too, only the owner is not that keen on documenting his endavours :(

Decompression is done with a plate + 2 metal head gaskets. Otherwise internals are factory, but all seals, rings, etc. have been renewed. The turbo is RHB4 from IHI. ECU is an IAW 8F heavily reprogrammed to deal with boost, 2.5 MAP sensor, and 250ccm injectors.

Time was actually reasonable, I was expecting to spend more (I actaully wasted a bit of it on things I never needed, or had to redo), money wise, I do not even want to know anymore. It better run good for next two years...

What car is the ECU from?

The particular instance of the ECU was IAW 8F from Punto 75, but that is irrelevant, because it now runs a modded and remapped (as described above and in another thread) version of the IAW 18F program initially from Fiat Palio Weekend 75 :) Why do you ask?

I very much like this conversion, wish I had the know how on doing a turbo job on mine.

About your exhaust, where did you get that backbox from as that looks rather tidy and nice and would love one as well :)

I guess you like the one from the gallery, the black one from the earlier posts here was quickly replaced. But they are both the same brand. All my exhaust parts are from Jetex:

http://www.jetex.co.uk/

apart from the Cat, which was sourced somewhere by my local tuners that welded up the exhaust together (y)

EDIT: Re. the know how. Mechanically this is really simple, 5 years back I had zero knowledge to do it. All you need to do is your homework and consult things here for example. The difficult and crucial bit is the electronics and engine control. This is a science on its own, I do not mean to brag, but I have seen several non-turbo projects here and there that got totally stuck because of this. Mine on the other hand started on the first turn of the key and I went to fetch my lunch afterwards almost immediately :D It then slightly broke mechanically after few km, but that is another story. And this is only to get the engine started, mapping and tuning it up is a whole new subject.

Nice project :D
Im highly considering spending some time and money on learning all the basics and building a cinq/sei turbo. The mechanical side doesnt look too daunting but as prev. said, the electrical side is the PITA bit.
I would be more than willing to pay someone to help sort that out and obvisouly get it on RR as much as needed.

I may be coming back to you woj and blu73 for advice and pleas for urgent help :p

well thats what the forum is for ;)
If you wanna come and have a gander at my seicento at some point feel free, although depending on where in Linclonshire you are its either not far or a long way to mine (but nearer the woj for sure lol).
