my mum been pestering me for ages to be allowed on the net with her computer :bang:

finally got round to do it and it dont work on her computer , it works on mine :D

it shouldnt really be running on her comp as it dont meet the system specs, but so far everything seems to be installed and being reconisged :D

but.....

when im trying to set up the internet connection and it not having it :( , im assuming its cause it doesnt pick up the signal (symbol shows no signal) , is there anyway of boosting the signal , i cant move router :(

have seen this http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=-9555&doy=22m7 , this the sort of thing im looking for

i also seen bigger antenna, that replaces existing one , again would that do the job

i want the cheapest thing possible and dont want overkill

tell me what to look for and i be back :p

you can buy repeater stations that will repeat the signal so that the range is extended... I.e. the Wireless access point without the router attached is what you want to do the job.

I have the no signal problem using XP pro and I am right next to the router.
I found I have to go into the wireless network properties and re connect manually once done no problem.

have tried that and dialer pops up :(

should of made myself a little clearer on first post, i very, very rarely get a signal

i dont want to lug the computer upstairs, im taking the lazy mans approach :D

what brand of wireless network card are you using? ive always used D-link, and have them really good at getting a signal over long distance (i linked two houses using them!)

Before you go spending money, and trying all kinds of things, see if you can get any signal at all. I know you said you can't move the router, but do it anyway! It doesn't need to be connected to the phone line for the wireless to work. Just plug power in to it, with it next to your mum's PC. If that doesn't give you a signal, then nothings going to help, and you might have some other sort of problem, like a hardware problem.

:woot:

have excellent signal when its plugged in next to it :D

i have been told i may have a hardware problem, but by looks of it, it only signal prob

what happens next  , you really want that ice-cream :p

How big is your house? Normally the signal will get from one side of a house to the other, unless you have thick stone walls or a massive house. You don't live in a castle do you Gaz? :D
If there is any form of adjustment of the aerial on either the router or the network card, try putting the router some distance away where you get a medium-strength signal, then adjusting aerials to work out what gives you the best signal strength. Then try moving the router back to where it comes from.
What flavour icecream is it?

it not a big house :(

router is upstairs and mums comp is about 10m away (direct line) downstairs, through the kitchen and in the back room

pci card is good upto 50m in ideal conditions, im guessing being close to kitchen aint ideal, lots of interference , i remember when we had video sender in the kitchen it never used to work when you turned the light on or used the microwave

the only adjustment on card or router is up/down, left/right , i dont want to move router much, cause i dont want a crap signal :p

have got rasberry ripple :yum:
