Wipers are always a rip-off. I worked that out years ago.
Generally, all you need is new rubber inserts, and the rest of the wiper assembly is fine. The "mechanical" wipers tend to age and wear, and the clips and hinges loose stiffness and get all floppy, but the plastic ones - like on a 500 - will last for years and years. Maybe they'll get brittle and faded from sunlight, but they'll be fine for many many refills of rubber inserts.
Trouble is, the rubbers aren't always available as a separate thing, but they are available somewhere. Remember, the wiper manufacturers must buy the rubber by the mile in bulk on a big roll, and cut off what is required for each wiper.
The link I gave http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/accessories/refill-28/#search is the best I've found, but if I had a choice, I'd have bought both packets in one single 112" length.
The long one on a 500 is about 23" long, so that will use one from the packet. The short one and the one on the back, will take the other one .............. but I'll have bits left over. The other packet will wait for the future.
A tenner for wiper rubber that will last me some years is good value.
Regards,
Mick.
