HI folks, newby here,

I recently purchased a 2003 Punto for my wife which had a noisy wiper motor. I managed to get hold of one from a local scrappers, complete with linkage assembly. However, when I fitted the unit, the wipers seem to want to stop (park) anywhere on the screen - on any of the settings. I can however push the wiper control lever up to the (unstable) setting to park the wipers manually.

Can some explain why Fiat designed an unstable setting. Is it because they could not always guarentee the wipers would always auto park? Or have I just got a faulty replacement unit from the scrappers?

Regards GeoffB

you have fitted the wrong one for your car im afraid

Many thanks for the prompt responce.

How do I know which mark of car I have? I'm finding all these MK1/2 and Mk2/2b very confusing. The Log Book just shows the car as a 2003 Punto Active 8.
The old motor shows the following:
Denso TGE511
60511005
C130
2-185-1

Some advice would be helpful, please.

Regards

Geoff.

2003 was when fiat changed the design of the mk2 punto to have larger headlights an false grill in the bonnet, and a circular fiat badge on the boot lid.

Before this they has a smooth bonnet with a little round badge and the old style fiat badge on the left side of the boot. With narrow black projector head lights

So which one is yours

My Punto looks like the red one in your picture with the false grill.

Then it's a mk2b 2003-2006 you need to get a motor from one of those cars, the one you did get was from and older 1999-2003 car
I'll see if I can return the wiper motor and obtain the correct one. I should have known better given that I've had cars in the past when the model has changed mid-year and it's been a nightmare to get the correct part.

Many thanks for your expertise.

Best regards

The wiper motors are fairly robust and I have had success opening , cleaning and freeing jammed brushes. Your original motor might be worth a visit - nothing to lose.

HI,

I stripped the motor down before I starting to look for a replacement and the problem seemed to be the main bearing from the motor's gearbox. It does pay to shop around though as prices ranged from £58 to £12. So my final bill was £12 plus a £5 for petrol.

Many thanks for all your help.

Geoff
However, I manage to get a motor from a Mk2 for only £12 and .

For future reference..

Mk2a (1999-2003)

And then the Evo and latest 2012 Punto (Evo without ugly black inserts).
