Why is the build quality still so bad?

Why is the build quality still so bad?

I bought Fiat because its the only car I know whats wrong with it when its poorly :p

In all honesty I like Fiats, I have had 5 fiats, Punto, 3 Bravos and a 20vt Coupe.

We currently own a Bravo and a MJ panda. The panda is much better build quality than the Bravo. Its less than 2 years old and its covered about 40k The only things that have been replaced on the Panda is a craked fog light and a couple of tyres!

The bravo leaks, the heater squeals in 2 years and 40k I have replaced 3 injectors, exhaust, brakes and tyres. Still mostly wear and tear.

Would I buy Fiat again? I'll tell you in a year or so when i come to change my car :)

As far as GSR and Angel tuning go, as I have posted in the thread and being a moderator of this site - I wouldnt touch either! The info is too conflicting and i would personally rather spend my money on some more injectors, ready for when they break (y)

Ive had around 15 Fiats, I once bought a new Nissan and it was crap, so I bought more Fiats! They are brilliant, well most of them anyway:) you can keep your overpriced German tat, they havent made a decent car with soul since the Beetle. Compare a Fiat engine with a VW, all the VW ones are rough and ready, the Fiats sing.
I have to say, the Punto isnt their best offering by far, try something else:)
In the mean time, get a german car you so crave and then go onto a german forum and stop slagging this one off.

My personal gripe with the german cars and the germanising of the car industry is this, Its not quality its 'percieved' quality. If you want actual quality buy a subaru or a toyota, cars that despite looking like that plastic you get in selection boxes inside and having really badly damped switches and grab handles that thunk into the roof, will with correct maintenance run forever. Yes sitting in it isn't as nice but the light blue glow in an audi dash or its fit and finish or the fact the grab handles retreat slowly will be cold comfort while waiting for the breakdown people, Audi and Merc both regularly top tables produced by warranty companies showing which cars cost the most in warranty costs and breakdown the most in their first 3 years. What you have to remember is a soft touch dash, damping on controls, and all the other 'Quality features' german cars enjoy cost money, cars are built on a tight budget with what seems like a tiny amount of money to us say £11 per vehicle making a difference once its multiplied by millions of vehicles sold. So to put things in they have to take things out, The Volkswagen Golf demonstrates this Admirably, The mark iv was an outdated dinosaur with primitive engines, crap suspension and a habit of breaking down, to fix this in the mark v they developed new engines, and fitted new suspension aping the much more advanced focus set-up. The press reaction to this car? The quality has slipped!!!! why? The good suspension and engines as well as six speed gearboxes cost money, the worthless crap that composed the ivs oily bits didn't. So they had a large interior budget for the iv so it was great and the press who only ever see a car a week at a time loved it, the v they spent more on the car and less on the interior...the press cant see the oily bits but shiny plastic means its not as well built as the previous gen....POINTLESS

well said, a man who has seen beyond what the German car makers want you to see. I know someone who has always had Mecedes. A couple of years ago he bought his latest, and even he sees that the quality of those has slipped and wont be getting another. There is a body and paint specialist in Southampton that only deals in German cars and he says he is kept in business by new Mercedes body problems, rust being one of them!

i tested a gsr at the weekend on my car, already had a bmc cda, you can see the results in the punto tech section.

i didnt know you had a speed gear, the CVT would explain the low output. thats why you're 1.2secs slower 0-60 than a manual, the difference is very significant. i think the RR calc for flywheel is based on the standard expected losses from a manual rather than a CVT. recalc for cvt and see what your flywheel figure is, i bet its at least 5% higher.

i wish you could have had a standard intake RR session done to compare against.

i think the main problem with the CDA is the narrow feed pipe going to it. it would be better if the front of the CDA box was open with a pipe of the same diameter feeding it. (but then i would say that because thats the way my filter works)

Im not a fan of modern cars, indeed ive never owned one,so from my point of view as someone who dislikes most new cars,Fiat does seem to offer something that seems to have been designed to be interesting and different, rather than being built soley to make money.

All you do when you remorgage your house to buy a new VW is pay for the badge.

And my advice to anyone who just wants to badmouth Fiats and say how bad they are is to find another forum, though i dont think that the Skoda Fabia forum will be as fun and useful as this one!!:p
