Why is the build quality still so bad?

Why is the build quality still so bad?

end of the day common sense tells you a k&n is just as good, and so is a £10 ebay filter, but thats not the point is it.

That's true, the actual filter is probably similar or the same in GSR kits as it is in K&N or cheap eBay filters, but the GSR kits are positioned in the engine bay to make the most of the cold air coming in, for example the 1.9 JTD induction kit sits right at the bottom of the engine bay.

Also, at least with the GSR kits you know what power gains you are going to be getting as they have been tested on a rolling road before and after having them fitted, whereas with a K&N or similar induction kit the company makes claims that they haven't proven.

having the air filter low in the engine bay is a bad idea imo, it can get wet and dirty.

your air filter should sit as high as possible and as close as possible to the intake manifold, more distance on intake = more intake restriction.

the air filter should be enclosed and have a cold air feed from a suitable place. for exmaple a BMC CDA with a cold air feed to the front bumper mesh.

i have my own DIY alternative to a BMC CDA, it cost me £12 in total. i've got a big induciton kit attached directly to the MAF and a 6" flexi pipe going form the front bumper mesh to the filter, enclosing the filter completely. its a perfect solution.

a naked filter on the end of a silicone pipe is far from ideal imo. you lose any gains from increased air pressure on the intake at speed and you can not fully isolate the filter from hot air.

you never know what power gains you will get, it is different on every car. no one can guarantee a certain gain from a certain filter on a certain car. do you really think a company like K&N would not test all their filter designs prior to sale? the reason they do not give gain quotes is because they can not guarantee anything, and as a professional company they need to be careful what they say.

i honestly mean no offence but you are a prime example of the GSR massive, you've been brain washed by all the threads so you'll happily argue the case for a GSR filter even thought it is in no way superior to many other filters. hat off to oldschool he's done a very good job with the branding.

he's just pointing out the forum bias towards GSR products. its true that fiatforum seems to be full of people who love GSR products, ignoring the fact that they are just £10 universal induction kits with a piece of silicone hose attached to make them fit nicely. reading many threads on this forum you'd think the GSR kits were some kind of magical superfilter that is so much better than the other brands, but thats what marketing is all about, creating a niche and a good reputation. i dont blame oldschool for targeting a forum, its a great place to find customers for his products and i think he's done a good job of marketing a product that has a lot of competition from the big brands and the cheap alternatives. if you want to sell something you've got to find people to sell it to and then you've got to make them buy it, thats business. end of the day common sense tells you a k&n is just as good, and so is a £10 ebay filter, but thats not the point is it. rockbottom has just demonstrated nicely how well the GSR marketing campaign has worked, almost every member can recite the same sentence. respect is due to anyone who can differentiate that well in a market where all the products are the same thing doing the same job.

Thank you. At last someone stud up for oppinion that we share! (y)
Someone is taking "donations" to advertise some stuff, even Fiat itself, and as I can see, it's the same 20 people round and round...

Same old sentences here...also some wrong tips, that were just copy/paste from other memebers who saw that question so many times with same answer, and dunno much abbout the problem, but are glad to be smartass...but that's the forum in general, cant blame you...

Someone somewhere said I'm frustrated and this and that....well I may be some of that, frustrated for sure, but I am 100% objective!!!! IMHO off course

Back to the subject, you dont buy a Fiat for high build quality, you buy one because you want a Fiat!

I have a 1987 126,its riddled with bits of rust, surprisingly most of it is all intact and hasnt fallen off.I could quite easily go and get a Skoda Fabia, but i would end up taking anti depressants!

Actually I have bought a Fiat for high build quality, and I have a car with high build quality. Yet they have achieved this while still making a car with 'soul'. Something none of the other similar priced brands have achieved or are likely to achieve.

More distance on intake usually means greater torque, its a trade off.

Why would anyone want Fiat? I thought it's just the best buy (in GB)
Everyone in my country who has Fiat would like to change it for any German car...but hay....my nation (7 million) doesnt know anything, fiatforum is the stuf....

we cant all afford audi's and vw's though can we (y)

we buy a fiat because we want one and it feels right :D

just like you buy what clothes you want, choose where you go on holiday

i love my fiat and its a damn sight better then a ford or vauxhall (no offence) :p

interesting topic...

i bought my Marea because i thought its, gorgeous, different, cheap and interesting. But i still ended up with what i think is a good build quality, superb handling and comfortable car.

og course it has its down sides, like very poor MPG but i wanted a performance car not a economical one...

i do like the Skoda octavia but i'd be hard pushed to give up the Marea for one or even for any car....

whatever you choose to do i hope you are as happy with your purchase as i am

You said it....at last..

its not fiats fault you live in a backward little country with no economic prowess

As always, youre taking things out of the contents....I'm saying YOU can say its cheap because it is at your country, and thats why you have a different angle of looking at things....If I paid 500-2000 EUR for a 1990's-2000 car, believe me I wouldnt wine at all, acctually I would probably become a unrealistic fan like all ya out there...

i wanted a fiat because it looked a lot nicer than the other options and the driving experience is good. i could have bought a mk1 focus and had better build quality and handling than my bravo but it would have cost twice as much and is a good boring car. i could have got a mk4 golf for 3 times as much money but they handle crap and are so common. i dont regret buying my bravo (either of them) even though they both had their share of traditional italian niggling faults. end of the day my priorities are driving experience, styling & cost. reliability or build quality doesnt really bother me as much. actually i quite like the fiat group's bad reputation, it made my alfa so much more affordable than a 3 series or an a4.

Man, I dont know what to say abbout this....youre acctually jumping into your own mouth...
"reliability or build quality doesnt really bother me as much." - HELL MATE!!! what does bother you than???
And do you have a black Bravo maybe? No it's not common...

feel free to read through my posts if you feel thats true

Will you people out there finally admit that Fiat is crap, but you do buy it for crap sum of money in your country, in my country an 2001 Punto sporting costs 5500-6000 eur, so for that kind of money it's no bargain, beleive me, especially when you get to the point of fixing something every weekend, small and cheap bits you can do yourself, but I dont wanna do stuff myself, and especially not every weekend!

Sales figures over last 6 months;

Fiat +76%
VW +13%
Aston martin +2%

Everyone elses sales were down,I think that says it all;)

nothing bothers me, life is great :)

my bravo was sexy and i loved it so i really dont care that the slave cylinder failed and the spring snapped on the clutch pedal and the sunroof leaked and the airbag was faulty and the rubber on the handles died and the paint on the rear bumper bubbled and the rear wiper and washer failed and the the aerial leaked and there are many more i cant remember off the top of my head but i still loved it.
