I've asked this more than once before I know,
but I'm still aint convinced.

I thought there was some sort of gas mechanism that went on in those boxes, but past responses say they are merely for noise reduction and help cooling. Noise - fair enough. But If its better for performance to keep exhaust gases hot, why have boxes that aid cooling??

have a look at this

• to improve power and torque delivery characteristics
• to lead hot combusted exhaust gases away
• to muffle the sound, i.e. reduce noise emissions (where the intended use of the engine has to be taken into consideration)

By the time the gasses are that far down the pipe they are cooling anyway.
