Who has the most modded/powerful Bravo?

If I'm honest the c&b's are sitting in boxes on my wardrobe :) They get fitted in a few weeks...everything else is fitted apart from the cams tho and she's running 132bhp. She'll be between 155-160bhp once they're in according to the rolling road technician.

Ive got a 155hgt with a BMC CDA, new MAF and Dastek and it was rolling roaded today at 181 bhp, 210lb/ft.

Do you have a copy of the print out that sounds very ambitious?

lol, just kidding, just thought id see how long it would take to get the first "thats impossible" post

If NOS is cheating then i'm nowhere in the running with probably about 115bhp. Haven't done much apart from K&N and powerflow exhaust.

If I can count it though i should settle nearer the top of the 1.8hlx group with 190bhp :)

whats actually happened to ribzz?
ive seen his car a few times in the flesh at darrens garage, it was amazing!

He was banned from here for acting a bit "silly" I do believe.

Ok let's make this interesting.
I think the rules are as follows:

1) We should have a category for each N/A and diesel engine in a Bravo/Brava
2) A category for petrol turbo/supercharged engines in a Bravo/Brava
3) A separate category for those who also want to use NOS as I feel its cheating.
4) Peak BHP & Peak Torque figures should be given but it would be better if backed up by RR printout.

Then at the Donny show we should have like against like battle it out on the drag strip just to prove it's not just about the peak bhp/torque its about driver and power delivery.

After the Donny show a table should be put up on this website like a hall of fame with all 0-60times and ¼ mile times with speeds. I'm sure Wimmy could sort this out. If you can't make the Donny show then a Santa pod strip is also acceptable whenever you can be arsed to go up there. This should also be permanent on the website for other fiat enthusiasts to see.

What do you guys think of that?

I can almost understand your views on NOS but I would like to think it's just considered a performance enhancement the same way cams or a port polish could be considered.

It costs money just like any other mod, and it has to be installed in to your engine (just like most other mods) and it adds power just like you hope any mod would.

Sounds fair... Might have to take a trip to Angel Tuning and get the 150 re-map put back on tho.. cos the 130 re-map i currently have is great for everyday driving.. but just isn't as potentent 0-60!

Failing that.. I have the chance to visit red-dot racing for a full rolling road and custom re-map... but If im selling my baby.. i don't think i'll get the money back me thinks!!

As for current bhp and torgue... 126bhp @ the fly (105 bhp @ wheels) & 250ft/lb torgue!!

0-60... 9secs in the damp/wet @ donny last year :)

If we are going to do this proper then reason why NOS is classed as cheating is simple. If I have two modded cars let's say 1.2 the same sort of spec but one has NOS is it fair to lets them race? Some would say yes but the reason why we race is to see who can build an engine better and who is a better driver as it is an art. NOS is not a form of art as anyone can just install it and go. It doesn't prove **** it has no real street credit. That's why NOS should have a different category just like turbo/supercharger engines. As the performance increase is too great.

J.... does that apply to the JTD then.. as a simple re-map give a 50% increase???!!!

Thats just like having a huge squirt of NOS!!

If we're racing BHP like for like.. then i should race ASH-G as we both have the same BHP... but im sure he wouldn't agree... as the JTD is quicker than a 1.6!!!

J - By definition they wouldnt be the same kind of spec! One has increased the power the car is producing by adding NOS. And I think I'm right in saying its not something you can just bolt on and go. It takes tuning and tweaking like any other mod.

There is no art in me paying some mechanic 2000 to fit new cams and piggyback ECU. But it gets me some extra power and it's just me shelling out some cash.

Tommy K has done one of the best things you can to a JTD by unleashing its extra potential. And as he says, it's just some clever re-programming. I would never write an enhancement like that off because it's too easy.

As it happens I fitted and tuned my nitrous kit myself so I happen to think it is an 'art' producing the most power it can without blowing my engine to bits.

I think the reason it's always written off is it gives great power gains for initially a low cost so people think there has been no blood sweat and tears involved. But in reality, it's an expensive way to add a lot of power as you have high running costs. Each to their own though and I wouldn't personally change it.

I understand where you are coming from in terms of purely normally aspirated cars. The general consenses is things like the honda vtec based engines are the best NA engines around. But did you build it? or did honda?

If this is coming across too aggresively i'm sorry but I can't really think how else to word it.

If we were all racing stock cars then you would clearly see the drivers skill, but I don't think we could find 2 matching bravo's on the whole forum :)

Dan

Let me put it like this. Heavy weight class verse heavy weight class. So HGT's will fight it out. 1.8 vs 1.8 etc. If you feel that your car should be in a different class then so be it. So if your 1.8 is pushing out 160bhp then you could compete with the HGT's etc. I understand your point about NOS but I feel its better left out. And as for JTD remap yes it's allowed as diesel is designed for torque not high bhp as they don't rev high so the 1/4 mile time will show that. Lets just get the cars ready for Donny show and lay some power runs down.

Cool - I see your point about matching model for model.

It doesn't make any difference really anyway. I'm probably slower than a 1.4 since the first 5 or 6 seconds is always me just spinning my tyres because I can't get the extra power through the tyres and on to the tarmac :)

Dan

J.... thanks for bring that point up...!!! stoopid JTD gear box!!

After the last lot of runs I found out.. all the petrols can do 60 in just 1 gear change... the poor Diesels need 2 gear changes.. cos it will only do 50mph flat out in 2nd.. and by doign that ur well outta usable power!

the JTD gets goign at about 2500rpm and is buggered after 4000rpm... so I have a wopping 1500revs to get the old girl moving quickly!

as for bhp.. the 126bhp is achived at close on 4000rpm... so u have to wait a long time for the max bhp to come in...

do have a bit of an advantage tho.... wonder who can work that out ;)

Ok my final comment on NOS is this. Engines only use two main ingredients to run. Fuel in the fuel tank and air in the atmosphere. Every other mod done to a car utilizes these two ingredients and are permanent mods as in the sense there is no on/off switch. NOS is and extra additive fuel sorce that is in a separate tanks and can be used when you feel like it thus breaking the modding rules in my books as it's not permanently on. If I was then I would say yes. Now lets just get the times up hey. :) And see who will have the fastest bravo.
