Technical Which cat size?

Hey all,

I am close to purchasing a universal sports cat to weld onto my current stainless system. Ive measured the diamiter of my current with a plastic, cheap set of vernier calipers and it is reading 48mm.

On ebay I have found two suitable cats. One has an inlet and outlet diamiter of 50mm, the other 47mm. Just wondered which I should go for?

I/D or O/D? I'm thinking that it would be more serviceable to sleeve it rather than weld it straight on.

sorry, i measured the o/d as 48mm. sleeving it was what I had planned. atm I have a sleeved decat section and I had a seleved standard cat section but somehow I have managed to loose it!

well, if your gonna get it welded in without sleves, then as your o/d is 48mm, and the ebay items usually list i/d, i'd go for the 47mm

i think i might go for the 50mm as im gona get some sleeves welded onto either end when i get it fitted if i can. Ill contact the exhaust company before i buy it to see if they can do that when i get the quote.

I honestly don't think the 3mm will make a catastrophic difference.

Any good welding place should be able to sort something within a few mm's. Get him to weld you in a post cat lambda boss too if you don't already have one, but you may do, just thought i'd say as looks like an mpi in the pic.
