We all know stilos have big arches and to fill them i have 18" alloys on 215/45/18 tyres but i want to bring them out ---> of the arches more. The answer: Wheels spacers. What are your opinions on them and how much do you think i should bring them out of the arches? Here's a pic of my car at the minute:

I'm currently looking into this for my Schumi, which also has 18's. I've come to two conclusions:

1) I don't think there is sufficient space between tyres and arches to accomodate a spacer of more than 10mm without modifying the wheelarches (not something I want to do)

2) I would not use any spacer type other than hub-centric, and probably no other make than H&R or Eibach.

They are a pricey bit of kit though, and even with just a 10mm spacer, will need longer wheel bolts (and locking nuts in my case). I'm not expecting much change out of £230 if I go ahead...

Let us know how you get on.

Spacers must be used with caution, to prevent damage or excess strain. I would mainly use spacers if the reason was using an alloy with to high offset, like 60. On the Stilo the offset is around 40 mm.

I used 20 mm spacers on the previous Uno we had, as I wanted the 14" wheels from the Ritmo Abarth to fit on it.

So, somewhere around here there should be luying 4 Momo Racing spacers for a 98 PCB hub (with bolts). It's not legal in Norway as the type approval is altered due do wider tracking width, but I might try them when I change from winter tyres after easter. No way I'm going to the MOT with spacers on - tomorrow.

needs lowered more than spacers

its actually lowered on eibach sportlines but the ground makes it look ALOT higher than it is. Id love to slam it on coilovers but for the price that there at i cant afford over £500 to lower the car 30mm more.

he still on ebay last time i looked, and normaly replies to pms

Made contact with Richie Guy and he is still in business. Downside is he no longer supplies hub-centrics, only flat spacers and I have some doubts about the safety of those, as the only thing you're left with holding the wheel on is the four wheel bolts...

I might push them out 15mm? What do you think?

Measure the distance between the outside edge of the top of the tyre and the wheelarch. There are some good tips here:

You can mimic the spacers by building up varying thicknesses of washers between the wheel and hub to give you an idea what the final result will look like (but don't drive the car in that condition of course!!!).

In my opinion 15mm will be too much (it would on my Schui anyway). I'm thinking of 5mm for each front wheel and 10mm for each rear.

I run with 10mm hubcentrics all round as the Brembos won't fit with anything less. I have no trouble with that but then my car isn't dropped more than 277mm front and 17mm rear on the Prodrive GP kit.

I think the downside of the spacers, with harder suspension along with 18's is that the car likes to follow the camber of the road quite alot...

Thanx for the info Greggers. Though I'm a bit puzzled by your comment about not being lowered, as your sig says you have got GP suspension..?

Sorry, I'd had a coupe of beers :D The car is lowered but the GP kit only lowers it 27mm at the front and 17mm at the rear. Ideally, I'd keep the front springs but replace the rears with Eibach Pro's so that they're dropped to 30mm. I wonder if I could get away with any old Eibach rear springs from the Stilo range seeing as the weight of the rear will be the same for the whole range?
