Hi all,
Got myself a set of alloys for my punto, the same ones ive photoshoped on the other day, DueMila 195/40 R16's.

Where in worse condition than I had hoped, only seen pictures on an advert site, so haggled down another few quid (plus I drove a good bit to get them - 160ish mile round trip)
After a long drive got them back home started on the refurb,
have to get tyres taken off tomorrow to get the outer rims smoothed properly.
I have to wait for shop to get spigots ordered in so not in a major rush to get them on car..
Ill keep adding images to show the progress...

Just about an hours work so far,

Filled scratches and just reworking the surfaces.
Shot with a bit of primer just to help see high/low spots

Get them stove enamelled.

A good shop will fill the marks and give you a much better finish than you'll get with paint and for not much cost over paint and primer. You could even have the rims polished and the spokes in dark grey metallic.

I think I would have the tyres removed and follow one of the excellent guides on here or the other Punto forums. It may cost you £40 to have tyres removed and then refitted later on, but since filler will upset the weight balance anyway, you will need them balancing.

Also, with such open-spoked wheels, paint your rear drums black or dark grey. Coloured drums always look lost in the middle of big wheels, so it is better not to draw the eye to them. Not sure that red suits the car either; go for a tarnished gold colour on the front calipers instead.

Whitesie - Ive already bought paints n primer, so im just gonna spray them myself.

MikeSalt - yes, it is easy with tyres off, got them taken off 1st thing this morning n only charged me a tenner.

So far today - 10.30am til 1.30pm
All wheels filled
1 wheel smoothed and wet dry 1200

Rinsed off that 1st one, jus waiting for it to dry off and primed up

More images later

Time consuming and very dusty, but its an experience, and hopefully it will be all worth it when there nice and shiney!

Fiatpuntomk2b - im just doin them silver, that way i dont have 2 worry about backs of them

Mikesalt - Yeah, used P38 filler to fill scratches and dents in them, made 2 noob error of using too much at once even tho i used it loads at uni lol

There is a bit of Hue in that photo, but not much, its the primer coat that looks to be causing it.

Have 1 rim done with 2 coats of silver, Rover Quicksilver Metallic
Have another with 1st coat of primer. Need to smooth that done and hopefully get it sprayed tonight.

Was going to file this stamp off, but just left it on in the end, what is it for?

was hoping to have all at least primed today, but now just hoping 2 get 2 of them with top coats done..

more updates later

The unpainted metal under the valves can corrode. Better to get them out & painted.

Its also worth putting clear lacquer over the paint. Much more weather resistant than metallic paint alone.

well it still should be the original paint under those, as ive jus roughed around it before priming. but it would be far easy to paint to with having to work arount the valve, might try and get the rest out before i do any more.

Ill have to leave the silver coat til 2moro before putting clear coat on, then leave it til next day to rub it down then buff it back up to a shine.

Pretty happy with the results so far, but just is taking a bit of time

nope lol, this is my 1st attempt at anythin like this. I put it down to watching too much wheeler dealers - master classes in bodge jobs by Ed China lol

anybody know where to get spigot rings? The places ive been lookin online are lookin £35 for a few pieces of plastic!

For spacer rings, send a private message to richie.guy here in the forum.

With refurbs like that, I wouldn't be surprised if FF members offer you money to do their alloys. If you did, I would probably send my girlfriend's wheels.
