I have a 20 year old Fiat Punto 1.2 and had it for 8 years now. I was driving along and got a punture and got to a garage and they took my wheel/tyre off and put my spare wheel/tyre on for me. A few days later got the original wheel trim from punctured tyre and got a part used tyre put on and put this back into my boot as the new spare. My questions are - had car 8 years and never had a puncture before but put spare tyre on and no idea how old it is as it came with the car then 12 years old when bought but wonder if it is ok to keep this spare on full time. Also no idea about the wheel brace i need as admit not car savvy mechanic wise so if this puncture happens again I could be in trouble.
Seen both Euro Car Parts and Halfords have the following:

@qwerty2018 Hi, sorry you haven't had any replies yet.

Yes, either of those wheel braces will be fine.

My 2004 Panda wheel studs are 17mm, I believe a standard fiat size. You could check if you have a socket set, or even a ruler or spanner across the flats of your wheel studs.

Did your car come with a jack and wheel brace? It would be very unusual to have a spare wheel without these.

If you're considering jacking up your car to change a wheel and not too familiar with the procedure, please be safe and have a read of this post: https://www.fiatforum.com/threads/tight-wheel-nuts-and-safe-jacking-practice.500863/

About your spare wheel currently on your car...

The tyre markings will tell you two important things: the size of the tyre (eg 175/65 R14) and the age of the tyre (eg 4219, which means week 42 of 2019).

If this is new information, all you need is here: https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/advice/tyre-basics/tyre-markings-explained

It's usual for the spare tyre to be smaller for temporary use (and also a lower speed rating). And probably quite old and hard by now.

If your spare currently on your car is a different size and/or much older than the other tyres, then change it.

Big thanks and apologies here for late reply as no full time internet connection. Huge thanks for your kind help and going to check tyre coding now :)
