Anyone know if a 16" by 7" wide rim would fit happily under a 500 arch?

I don't see why not. 17" fit, so aslong as the offset is right you should get almost any set of 16" in there.

This is hard.... spoke to a wheel shop and they said most wheels wont fit the 500 cos of the 98mm pitch, so Id have to have 100mm wheels with wobbly bolts, I dont really want to do that but it seems almost impossible to find a site that actually says what wheels fit what makes.

Thanks for the info, I can get them in a 98mm pitch in 16x7s.... what sort of offset am I looking for for the 7" wide wheels?

yes, they cant help only with wobbly bolts.
only with wobbly bolts.
how do wobbly bolts work as the back of the wheel is still being put up flush to the hub i may be daft but i cant get my head round this one

the bolts isnt wobbly, its the shoulder that is. Because the Fiat pitch is 98mm and most wheels 100mm, you use a wobbly bolt to take that up. The thread will still go through the hole but the wobbly shoulder takes up the location. Because the wheels actually locate on the hub centre, in theory the wobbly bolts is fine... but I dont like them, its a bodge.

My understanding is that they have a loose 60 degree collar on them that takes up the 1-2mm slack.
