if it does have movement in the bearing and its not loose wheel nuts then you dont want to be driving it anywhere
a s/h hub is cheapest solution fitted by a small independant garage if your not up to the job
make sure movement is bearing and not track rod end mind

make sure the play ( foreplay is some thing else, you best google that one you will need to know about it one day) is in the bearing and not the bottom ball joint or elsewhere before paying out money.

good point but he would have known if it was that because he would have heard it banging as it made its bid for freedom for weeks previous

the noise is when im not accelerating.. when i stop accelerating then the noise comes, i think its the brakes touching some disc ? the brakes are defo touching something as you can hear it when your rolling and in the car it sounds like squealing like loose mounts of something.. when i do a full lock i hear a bang?

Jord.. a mechanic when he was giving me a tyre.. he said its the wheel bearing but just seeing what yous think

Jord

i searched up and people say it will hun the faster you go? it doesnt hum at all while driving when i let off the accelerator and it rolls by it self then it makes a noise like wuub wuubb wuubb liike i have dirty on my discs.. hard to say.. you might say this is bad but ive drove the car like 50 miles so far and nothing different in steering but when the car is jacked up the wheel defo goes up and down like rocks when you rocking it with your hands.. my old tyre had wear in the in near side !||||

if there is FREEPLAY when the wheel is jacked-up then it's NOT good,

wheel bearing would normally just rumble.. however you out to sort this out quickly, as it could be something else ..
BANGING sounds like something is getting mechanical stress, from a LOT of free play in a component,

if you're not "hands-on" go for a FREE safety check with a high-street brand garage,
they should spot it and give you a quote for the job,
feel free to let us know what they reckon and have quoted,

Charlie

yeah mate im going to get it checked out tomorrow and will let you know what they say and that :) couldnt do it today because garages were shut.
if it is the wheel bearing whats the price ill be looking at.. Mk2 2001

Jord.

thankyou

Trouble with buying a 2nd hand one is that if you don't know what to look for, which seems to be the case here, then you may end up with one just as bad. They don't cost a fortune so I'd go for new. Assuming that's what it is anyway.

Maggers. Irritating all and sundry since 1961.

ok thank you everyone! will talk to the mechanic tomorrow.. good thing hes garage is next to a scrapyard lol.. will post what happens!

Thanks!
Jord

there is the risk of 2nd hand

and sometimes alot of effort too

Luckily for me i have 2 scrap yards near me

I'd be tempted to pull a hub and Driveshaft out together :)
It saves fighting with the hub nut too, and CV's aren't common failures AFAIK

But its a risk you play - when you play scappy parts

And foreplay isn't too bad ;)
