The slip on head restraints are not acceptable for driving tests, have to have proper built-in ones.
We have an eyesight test, the driver must be able to read a standard UK number plate at 20 metres. I did once meet a young woman learning to drive, who was registered blind. Not as frightening as it first seems, she'd just lost partial sight in one eye, so had to move her head more.

France used to have a rule about roundabouts, that gave priority to those entering the circle. Took them many years to work out why they had so many jammed up. Like getting into a lift (elevator) before letting anyone out.

I first heard roundabouts called 'traffic circles' from someone who'd learnt to drive in South Africa. They also call traffic signals 'robots', as an abbreviation of 'robotised traffic signal'. Was quite fun when she said 'red robot' or 'green robot'.

I've met a few people from the states moving to the UK, and roundabouts were always the thing they struggled with most.

I think 'Yield' is so much easier than our 'Give Way', but here too, so many arrive, pause, then look, when they could have kept moving. Causes a lot of collisions when they're hit from behind.

There are quite a few video clips of the Milwaukee roundabout on YouTube, where so many arrive too fast for the turn. It needs a few trees on it. Humans don't heed warnings as much as we should, only reacting when we see stuff. The Milwaukee roundabout is not straight ahead, so cars approach too fast. If the roundabout was more obvious on the approach, more would slow down, and spoil our fun watching them crash.

I wasn't aware of the Milwaukee roundabout on 6th. I don't get up that way as often anymore. There used to be one near Miller Field, now American Family Stadium, that has been replaced with an intersection with stop lights. Apparently, Brewers fans would be so tanked after a game that the roundabout became a demolition derby.

I had my first experience with a roundabout in Nassau while on a Yamaha scooter with my young bride on the back in 1976.

Wife decided we should replace all the small appliances at once...we've had them a decade to be fair and they were a little worse for wear.

Let's play some tetris then...the prize? Not having to remove the childseat to fold the back seat. Very surprised it all fitted..

Is that a thing ? Don’t you just replace the kettle when you need a kettle ?
We bought a lovely purple Kettle...12 years ago...with a matching toaster.

Couldn't possibly fahkin just replace the kettle (the cord had been on the hob at one point so was slightly melted flat on one section and the plastic water gauge had cracked but wasn't leaking, not ideal but did work) as that then wouldn't match the purple toaster. The microwave on the otherhand was ruined by sterilising baby bottles...the steam got under the finish and it started rotting through.

Toaster was fine...but it would have ruined the aesthetic.😑 Apparently we need to be able toast 4 slices of bread at once now...very important.

Our toaster is about 20 years old and still makes bread warmer and browner. The kettle is an app controlled thing I got in circa 2017 just silver no need to match it to anything, microwave is red and used very little…. Worth noting your point about steam, we have a microwave steriliser and an electric steam one which we mainly use, will stick to that and minimise the use of the microwave if it’s going to damage it.

We also got a perfect prep machine on the recommendation from a friend which has to be the best invention ever !!!

I feel like I've not made it clear enough the toaster could be Day-Glo orange and the kettle metallic teal for all I care..🤣 My input "yes dear".

We had all sorts of gadgets at one point or another, slowly fell by the wayside as time went on. We had self sterilising bottles in the end, you would put them in the microwave with the teet inside. If you wanted to wake yourself up after a night feed...put one in the microwave with slightly too little water in it. Will flashboil to steam around 3 minutes in and make a bang like a bomb...that may also be how the finish got damaged.

Anywho...today's smile, trip to Fountains Abbey as we tend to do at this time of year. Toddler managed 3.5 hours in the car with no accidents and about 5-6k walking...we may have walked 8 in total but hey it's good for my core strength.

We've always had a four slice toaster. Thank Ja for dual controls. Mrs. Cheest likes hers barely warm whereas I prefer toast.

Todays gadget, a “rockit” a thing shaped like a rocket which shakes the push chair, cradle, what he’s in so he sleeps, also currently has an Ollie the Owl playing a heart beat sound wedged in the basket with him

Ollie the Bastard as he was known..fun fact my son once farted in his sleep so loud Ollie went off...this woke the child up.

Another fun fact would be on a particularly hard day my other half was having a low moment and Ollie went off..at that point he volunteered to live on a window sill on the other side of the blind right up until he was donated to a charity shop. Had a vibrating bassinet...and a bouncy chair...and half a dozen things you pray to the good lord will work when all you want is a few hours kip.

Only things my son would sleep to was the sound of road noise, and/or smooth Fm. Or being pushed in a pram...

It's hilarious now though as now he's talking it's like having a broken jukebox following you round. He was happily singing "Zombie" by the Cranberries today..Still sleeps with Smooth FM on the radio in his room.

this gave me and my wife a good laugh 😂

At least he has taste, maybe wait till he’s a be older before explaining the whole meaning to that song.

At the moment we are doing everything to avoid midnight drive abouts to try and get him to sleep, pointless anyway as soon as you get him out of the car he starts crying again.

I have visions of me driving off the road into a ditch him not waking up so me deciding to have a little sleep there rested on the airbag…

Need to work on your Indiana Jones technique...if I had to swap a bag of sand for an idol the temple would not come down. Had it down to the point of could get out of the car, unlock the door the door of the house with him on my shoulder, take him upstairs and put him in bed.

But if you can avoid would not recommend..knowing what we know now about his allergies and tongue tie etc..he'd never have slept on his back due to reflux and hunger or mild anaphylaxis...but took months to get to the bottom of it all by which point routines had been set.

The level of wrecked we were during this period..would be typified by the dent that adorns the back door of the C3. She reversed into a fence...the car has both parking sensors and camera.

Fun fun...but everyday is different etc and nothing stays the same. So whatever challenges you currently have...Will no longer be a problem in 6 months...and you'll have a whole different set 🤣

Friday and a nice beer...

Had 9 days off over easter/half term so work has been a trip this week.

During my week and a bit off it was my sister in laws wedding so all sorts of shenanigans to work around.

But we had a load of nice family time as well with trips to Fountains etc..also unintended cruise round the North pennines on the way to the wedding..I knew exactly where I was...but was trying to get him to have a nap which he didn't..but he was on top form when we got there and met up with his mother who'd travelled the direct route by wedding car (it's a 22 minute drive...my scenic route was 1 hour 30).

All in all nice week, did burn through 45 quid of fuel between fountains, the wedding and other trips and spent about 6 hours in the car over 3 days. But it did 50mpg despite my lead shoes...and well to be fair it's so much better at long motorway trips and soaking rough country roads at cruising speed than the Mazda it's vaguely ridiculous.

Exploded my first self sterilising bottle in the microwave.

@StevenRB45 i now understand how you can destroy a microwave with these tiny bombs, going to ship a load to the Ukraine, it’s 10 times more powerful than anything the Russians have got
You can't even say you weren't warned...

For extra style points set 4 off at the same time.

Found out that I'm working in Cancun, Mexico next week. First international trip since 2019. Dirty thankless job, but someone has to do it. Also getting my 2nd booster this evening
