Scientific advancement isn't a clean process, sadly. However, more pollution comes from cows. What would you suggest we do there?
I didn't get the memo putting me in charge of resolving the ? problem.

Space junk in earth orbit is already causing problems for personal satellites

Sorry about that auto spell problem
Causing problems for operational satellites and planning for proposed new satellites

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're suggesting that we should stop sending rockets into the space because they cause pollution. Which is true, however (unless we plan on implementing some drastic population control measures sooner rather than later) we're eventually gonna run out of space on this little interstellar marble we love so much. So we need to look into ways to reliably get off of it and back again without wrecking multi-million £ craft.
I do agree though that pollution is an issue which will only make it harder to continue living on this planet, but stopping a program which is undoubtedly the lifeline for our species in the future isn't the way to do that, especially considering the fact that there are things which can be done (were it not for the money makers puppetting the decision makers) to reduce our daily impact.

Anyway ... rant over.

You can't have it both ways.

You can't complain that putting stuff in space is a hazard for operational satellites when there wouldn't be satellites in space without launches like this.

This is a test launch that will potentially send us to other planets, but also will allow the launch of much bigger more complicated and more advanced satellites into space, such as future generations of hubble or even launch multiple satellites in one launch saving considerable earth resources and using rockets that can be reused unlike past rockets launches.

The best analogy of current space travel is that you take a plane to go on holiday and when you get to your destination, they blow the plane up on the runway and build a new one for the return journey.

In 200 years time I'm sure we will look back at this as archaic and wasteful, but in order to get there, we have to start somewhere.

I was pointing out that launching rockets is a source of pollution on the planet. A point that another poster appeared to have missed.

I make no comment regarding space programs.

methane emissions from cows could be reduced drastically but worldwide cooperation and will would be required, sadly lacking I'm afraid.

Goodness , I simply pointed out space junk is already causing problems.
I didn't express any opinion regarding space programs in general.
Calm down.

Supermarket loo, just washing my hands and two guys walk in, presumably work colleagues.
First one gets to a urinal, and moments later says, "Ooh, my hands are cold".
Second one gets to other urinal, says, "Ooh, so they are!".

Brilliant. Still laughing now, first guy very embarrassed, doesn't know what to do or say next.

IMG_20180216_114916.jpg this loo roll that employs physics and magic to manipulate time. Handy I guess!

Now I should be annoyed about this..but we've got building work and decorating going on and I'd had a conversation with the wife about a large wardrobe and chest full of books...which went a long the lines don't move the chest by the handle it's too heavy for flat pack to take. Also the wardrobe is a 2 person job and is also crap flat pack so has to be emptied to be moved..now my wife's reaction to this was you always put obstacles in the way..

Now apparently she relayed my thoughts faithfully to my father in law who promptly ripped the handle off the chest and broke the wardrobe..

I should be angry I'm just laughing my arse off..

A section of the A1101 headed out of Wisbech has a contraflow after a set of traffic lights. As I approached the lights they were changing and I noticed a recycling collection truck further ahead. I was in the left lane waiting when an Audi stopped next to me. He was in the outside lane headed into a contraflow so I was planning to give way anyway but he sat there pumping the throttle, revving the engine so the blow off valve was acting like a limiter.

As soon as the amber light was illuminated he shot off, all four tyres spinning, hit the limiter, blow off valve, more wheel spin and he was gone.

A couple of hundred yards later he was stuck behind the rubbish collectors. I drew up behind, flashed my headlights a few times to get his attention and as soon as I could see his face in the mirror gave him a slow clap.

A key part of driving - "Look well ahead".
