A random comment about freelance photography this morning has made me think seriously of doing a course in and actually persuing a career in it... Why didn't I think of this years ago?!!

Judging by your photo in booby thread I think you should give it a go :D

Although, on a more serious note, there are a hell of a lot of freelance photographers, so you have to be really good. If you think you can do it, have a go(y)

theres a way scary statistic i heard while doing my photography degree... its something like
there are 100x more people studying photography, then there are jobs available for them. there are more freelance photographers about that google can even begin to find... its seriously competative, and you've really got to have an edge to get any work in this industry. i nearly sold out and ended up going down the studio route (venture etc. kids... dogs.. couples :yuck:)

its not a secure income, so unless youre only gonna do it in your free time for extra beer money and cos its something you enjoy... go for it. but i wouldnt suggest it as a means to pay the rent. cos its really not a stable career

i know all too well :(

An x collegue of mine has just become a freelance photographer. Kay is right it is difficult unless you only do weddings etc which is just weekend really. If you can find studio space then you will have a much better edge.
He is a freelance designer as well so he can make a stable income out of it.
If you need any info or help just drop me a PM, i is a Pro photographer too. We have just expanded and sorted out our Studio, i cant claim to be the best or know everything because i really am at the beginning of my photographic career. But i do know a fair bit of the peripheral stuff that can get you started. (y)

lol. im a pro photographer, with a degree and years of experiance in both studio and location work.

if theres anything worth knowing, i probably know it.

i do graphic design too, and web design... i really didnt want to go freelance in any of my specialties, but recently ive been doing more and more research into it. ive already done bits of things for people... so if i chase up a few things i can probably dribble in some extra money

I know what you mean its difficult to learn when your on your loan but if doing freelance means that you are practicing your industry then so be it.
We are desperate for some cheap freelancers but the work that we need to put out is difficult unless you have learnt what to do here :bang:
We may have some retouching in the not too distant future if your interested.
