I'd forgotten how much fun driving in London is. Use indicators anywhere especially on roundabouts and you get funny looks. Do something as normal as letting someone out of a junction instead of advancing four feet and it's like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".



I shouldn't get a Congestion charge ticket as I had a Vicks Inhaler with me.

Like any Fiat, a Rover 25 can be very nice, or a money pit, but with significantly less backup!

Have you told her Puntos come with 5 doors too?

Hmmm, I wouldn't do that, a mk2 Punto is far safer than a rover 25, plus I'd imagine it would be cheaper to run.

She has test drove the rover and it is a lot better than I thought it would be

Avoid the Rovers. They are deathtraps. Get a mk2 Clio instead.

That would tell me the Rover is safer. And I would guarantee the Rover is also better built, better to drive and more reliable than a MK2 Punto.

The mk1 Punto scored a 2* NCAP rating, the mk2 Punto scored a 4* NCAP rating, and the Grande Punto scored 5*. I had originally wanted a mk1 Punto for my 1st car, but when I saw the NCAP result, I swiftly changed my mind! I also considered a Seicento, but after seeing the 1.5* rating, I lost my liking for them!

As pointed out the mk2 was a 4 star car and a huge amount of advertising at the time was based around its safety rating. The 25 was indeed only 3 stars

Reliability wise don't be so sure rovers have a lot of problems, only the Diesel engined 25 was truely reliable, the petrol engines were no better and no worse than any fiat, the main issue is rover 25s are dwindling in numbers and with no new parts supply chain and not many in scrap yards getting parts outside of the normal service items is going to be more difficult.

My mistake I looked at the MK1 Punto - checked without beer goggles this time!!!

The main problems for the 25 was classic head gasket issues. Underneath the 25 though is a lot of Honda engineering.

iirc they don't roll cars for ncap, ive seen a few mk1's on here after rolling and they are just dented and people in side walked away unharmed. n cap are a good guide but don't mean the car will be safer in every type of accident

First race day with the team over. Very short-lived, considering were competing in endurance racing (4 hours).
The E46 LS3 failed 10 minutes into the qualifying. Still unknown why, but we're suspecting a broken crank.
The E87 120d had brake issues early in the race, we lost 16 laps working on the car. Driver change a bit later, and he then proceeded to crash the car having done about 15 laps.

Yeah.... Honda engineering from the 80s rover basically carried bits from one model to the next never really making a new car but updating a look and bolting on bits that fitted.

By the time they went bust the whole thing had been bastardised so much there was very little Honda and a lot of British Leyland bodges. It was as much a Honda as it was a mini metro

I think the mk3 200/25 used rover engines, a solely rover body, a solely rover dashboard, the only part I'm unsure of is the platform.
