Just back from the bugalow. The roofers couldnt remove the 19mm ply off the new flat roof as it was frozen on. Daughter and I did this today. Both sheets were 58 years old. Both old ones from the garage which had the entire roof renewed. The first sheet went down somersaulted and lay flat. Evne though soaking wet still its sound and will ahve another use. The second sheet looked the same but shattered when it hit the deck. Ive never seen anything quite like it. It looks as if its been blown up with explosive. 1st circuit on the new consumer unit is in and working just needs the wire clips and I can move on. I think lighting next but its likely the cause of all the issues and I'll bet my shirt on the lights and sockets being conjoined somewhere and the lights being at the bottom of the tripping out. I am hoping to replace the single circuit with two so you dont have complete backout because a bulb tripped the power off. New rings and hopefully I can reuse some of the switching wires. I have seen a 16mm drill bit thats about 1.2m long, I am thinking of drilling down the walls from up top, to fit new switch wires if required.

None of you knew how much you needed to know all this, did you? A test will follow later.

We get Tesco to deliver our shop every week.

They have the air of something that while ordinary and every day is carefully thought through for maximum efficiency of time and effort.

You'd not believe how much time and effort goes into some of the breakdown vans. Literally every detail tested, prototyped, things moved on the basis of safety. Eg put the towing equipment in the side door...which you'd think is mad given you use it at the back. But if you open the back door (which is a tailgate not barn doors so in a car park the client can shelter under it if needed...) on a motorway then the reflective chevrons disappear into the sky and then you need to work back to the traffic to get the equipment out with reduced visibility. So having on the kerbside until last possible moment is safer...

Just one design decision in hundreds but they are largely bespoke things. While possibly not finessed to the same degree the supermarket vans do seem like there's a similar department making similar decisions for the drivers to then beat their careful work to death.

Small suprises. MRI scan abnormal... I knew that! Lets hope there can be a solution. Getting up and down ladders, and doing building work is not easy with severe back events and constant leg cramp, Anyyway the french windows are in and looked great. Shame they stopped closing when all the trim was fixed. I couldnt face it so called the locksmith who got them back to not too good so I could go home. God bless him. I thought I was sleeping there! I have to make some serious adjustments to them, then he will have another go. I must have done something wrong, but Im damned if I know what. its dead level in all directions. My structural repairs are going well and another area was gunned out and things not as bad as expected. Ive started looking at wiring and decided the lights need redoing. Thank God its a bungalow most of the wiring is obvious and 90% can be seen. As Im insulating internally A lot of walls can have surface mounted wiring for now Tomorrows target is at least two rooms with lights. Hee e e e e e lllllllllllllllllllllllp

Was it slippy after the freezing rain last night?

Let's ask an SUV driver...

Good effort only 90 degrees to the direction of travel.

To quote last of the summer wine.. "it's an off road vehicle! Well it is now.."

Yes, that really is a written off Porsche 4x4, I made Nina go round the roundabout twice just to get a series of videos
Two years ago we were coming down dacre bank, dark, snowing and bitterly cold, (mK1 panda cross) and something made me stop after the bend. Nina also said she thought she saw something, so we reversed back round the bend to cast the head and fog lights over the scene. Sure enough there was a volvo xc90 on its roof in the ditch.
We made sure no one was trapped before going merrily on our way!

To be fair to the Porsche it appears to be a Cayman which has to come near the top of the list of cars I'd not want to drive on sheet ice and summer tyres.

Quite a few people around today who don't seem to make the connection between ice on the car and ice on the ground.
Its a Porsche718 Boxster, you can see the black fabric roof. That said all the same issues apply just with more floppy chassis, making things very slightly worse.

I am not sure why anyone would make repeated trips round a roundabout to take multiple videos and photos of a crashed car.......?

Reminds me of a few years ago, heading out to a village to pick up a learner, with snow around. Once off the main road, the next road was gritted, but still slippy, then off that towards the village, not gritted at all, driving on compressed snow. The Corsa (BSM) on summer tyres, was a little on tiptoes, but generally going where pointed. Then on an S-bend, there on the verge, with one front wheel in the ditch, was an Audi A6 Allroad, 4wd, the driver shivering waiting for recovery. He looked a little miffed as I gently drove by without a slide.
Ten minutes later, he looked very upset, as my learner drove past him, again without incident. She rubbed it in a little, by waving and smiling. (They do all know each other in the village of course.)

Noop did a little skating this afternoon. Black ice. I was on my way to collect my traikler to get my repaired mower, so glad it was solo not towing. So much for the temp being 6.5 all day.

Duracell. The last 3 packs of batteries I have bought were all leaking on inspection. Like many I forward buy as these are supposed to have a very long shelf life. In all cases because I had chucked the till receipt from the weekly shopping, the seller refused to take them back (Thanks Tesco and Aldi) SO duly brassed off I got the entire stock and all the ones I had in all the battery appliances round the house and garage and posted the whole bag of pooh back to them and told them exactly what I thoiught of their rubbish. Unfortunately I didnt remember the 8 in my labeller. ANd three days ago found these too had leaked . Fortunately I have caught this in time to stop it being wrecked. Its at least £60 worth of kit. In my email to Duracell I clearly said I wanted no mpre from them and that I will certainly never entertain any of their products ever again. SO today they send a pile of vouchers for me to hget a pile of their substandard leaking and damaging products FOC. They thanked me for my comments which basically said your products are no good, I will never use them again and I will broadcast my experiences as far and wide as possible if I hear fro myou again, closing by saying DO NOT CONTACT ME AGAIN. ITs clear that they can no more read and understand a basic simple email than they can make a reliable leak pfoof battery. SO the next step is to go looking for their leakers in the shops and then report them to advertising standards and Trading standards. Im now running cheaper batteries from Tool station. They cost around 30% of the price and unless they actually explode cannot possibly be worse than the expensive misrepresented offerings from this shower.

I may offer the vouchers to the Doctors surgery as long as Im not held liable for leakage, They can use them and if neceassry get stuff delivered to me so I can pass it on.

I've given up entirely on "premium" branded batteries and now buy Ikea or Lidl/Aldi own brands. Got them in multiple devices from TV type remotes to torches to children's toys and others. They seem to last just fine and I've not had any leakage problems. I think they are probably high turnover items so probably not sat on the shelf for long before I get them? Just wish these places would stock the "C" size cells my kitchen radio runs on. "C" and "D" size are getting difficult to find these days.

I need some for my maglite and now you mention it I cant remember seeing these either. :(

Day off from house building. I have been stuffing my face all day as my weight is still dropping now 15st 11.
Can't remember if I've posted this recently but I'd put on a bit of weight leading up to and following my operation - due to being less active I guess? Anyway, I weigh myself most mornings when I'm in the bathroom and, for the last week or so, I'm now back to just under the 12 stone mark. I like to be around 11.5 stone if I can but I'll take just under 12.

Learned a new and very quick check for excess body fat this morning. Mrs J was watching AM TV just before I set out on my walk and there was a "medical" presenter showing how to do the "piece of string" check. What you do is get a piece of string the same length as you are tall, fold it in half and see if the ends meet when put round your middle just below the bottom of your rib cage. I tried it about half an hour ago and there's a gap of about 1.5 inches. I don't know how good or bad that is so I'll not worry about it but I'm guessing that if I can get back around the 11.5 stone I'll not be far off?

You really should take a breath and hold your tummy in as much as humanly possible before doing this to get the right result LOL

You could try an AAA to C cell converter if you're really struggling. I used to have a couple in an old rubber torch until it "retired" itself by letting the glass lens fall out because the rubber had gone hard and shrunk.
