Need to top up power steering fluid...some googling was contradictory.. so just pitched up at Mazda and asked for a bottle. They looked around, produced a bottle of oil...which was then decided was wrong. They then decided that apparently my car doesn't need PS fluid it needs auto transmission fluid..they don't have it so they printed out a picture of it!

Oh well I have a picture of what I need..

Maybe give them a photo of your car to check, when it's up for MOT ?

Well last year they gave me photos of my car post mot...

Anyway apparently the fluid is arriving today, it's not a service item (fluid should be good for the life of the car) which I guess would be why they don't have any.

All I wanted to do was put a few hundred ml in to bring it up from just above minimum where it's been forever to halfway so if I do have a leak it's not immediately running the risk of damaging the pump without a chance to spot it dropping any.

I now see why they don't bother stocking it...to fill the system from just above minimum to just below maximum took a whole 150-200 ml. So I now have enough fluid to flush and refill the system at least 3 times over spare..and it's not a service item (will still be day 1 fluid in there) so unless it springs a leak at some point which touch wood it won't I will never use that...

Sat writing an FF thread post, ( day off , home alone)

and heard a HUGE BANG form the house..

sounded like it was upstairs.. weird.. but have moved a LOT of stuff around over the weekend.., so expect to see a collapsed cupboard / wardrobe..

NOTHING,

go back to the bedroom I'd 1st glanced in..

there is a pigeon with wings fanned imprint " in dust" on the outside of the window

no sign of a stunned / dead pigeon though:)

There's a new saying these days..."it's subtropical oop north". Went for a run this morning in shorts and T shirt it was 20 degrees..last Saturday we had 2 inches of snow..in the summer my car was damaged by golf ball sized hail..which is unheard of..

Climate change? Nah totally not happening.

it's Deja Vu..all over again:D

Spent several hours in a layby this morning after my temperature gauge suddenly shot up, engine smoked as I stopped. Car had dropped all the coolant straight out into the road.

Thought "****e, head gasket gone". Especially given I knew it had coolant, and had been gurgling through the heater prior to this.

Upon inspection the the coolant pipe had snapped clean off the thermostat housing and was lodged inside. Called a Fiat dealership, found they had all this, but found the same at Eurocarparts. Left the car, collected it ten minutes away, out came the battery, hoses, thermostat replaced, and all reconnected at the side of the road. Slightly bodged but got it home again. Cost the grand total of about £20.

Car runs a good'un! Still not how I wanted to spend a few hours!

I had a similar experience a couple of years back when my multijet burst the water pump seal.

Fortunately for the multijet it runs so cold and it was winter time, with no coolant is didn't break a sweat driving the rest of my 20 mile trip

Aha you were luckier than I then - no roadside engineering for you!
I'd be lucky if mine went another 20 yards! Did explain the funny looks that lady in the car next to me gave me just before because of the smoke.

I no longer have to administer painkillers and oral antibiotics to the bunneh...

We still have 2 weeks of giving him antibiotic injections though. I say we...I mean I, and I hate it, he hates too though nowhere near as much as the oral ones, I'm very very glad he's a gentle soul who never ever bites even when you're doing something he really dislikes.
