What's made you not grumpy but not smile either today?

I've just spent two hours watching people get stuck in the snow in my village. I helped the first two and then thought why am I helping when it's 4pm on a Sunday in a lockdown when it's been snowing all day. Why are people driving about at all?

Indeed, even if it isn't lockdown people seem to find all sorts of excuses to go get stuck somewhere.

Hill at mine is always hilarious..I'm not helping any of them cos the fact is there are 2 much flatter roads that go to exactly the same place, they are just hard of thinking. Usually some sort of Chelsea tractor, always nice seeing what a trip into a hedge does for the paint.

At least we've avoided it this time, it's just minus 4 with frozen snow melt everywhere instead.

Tbh these idiots should be staying at home, not only due to it being lockdown, but if they slip and break their arm, leg or neck where are they going to end up  :bang: exactly the place that’s already over run and stretched with COVID cases.

People need to stop doing anything that places them in risk of having to take a trip to hospital IMO. I didn’t even go out for my 3 mile walk in the snow when we had it last weekend for this very reason.

I watched an Audi Q7 arriving at the junction, gave it POWER! and tried to turn right! Went straight on across and smashed the front bumper. They then reversed and tried to get up the hill with even more POWER! Ended up totally stranded. Had to be pushed up the hill by loads of guys pushing it.

I thought those things were proper off roaders? I assumed they must at least have terrain settings so even the blonde middle aged women with sunglasses on their heads can still manage???

I suspect they come to the UK in city spec with summer tyres and all sorts of dumbing down to meet optimistic MPG figures?!

I remember hearing some middle aged short woman in the butchers a few years ago speaking to the cashier saying "I'm not one bit worried since getting the TT like, four wheel drive and all"............ I remember thinking to myself "what an idiot". I'm sure the four wheel drive works better at a racing start line in perfect conditions... as for preventing any sort of loss of control?! I don't know... not unless you're skilled in it I presume.. lol

Still, compared to the Panda my DS3 is terrible in the snow. Least I didn't expect anything else from it though.. the marketing was all rather risqué French irrelevant dramatic scenes shot in grayscale, not claiming any sort of special abilities like the bold off roading claims I reckon Audi makes?

Well no matter what car you have you have 4 wheel braking and the front wheels steer.

Also these days you will have ESP, ABS and traction control. These do work well provided the tyres give them something to work with.

While 4 wheel drive gives more traction, it does not help you stop or steer at all, quite the opposite in the case of the two tonne tanks that are so common currently. Usually will be on 285 section 21 inch wheels, and high performance summer rubber, just what you need in snow.

Small light car and the right tyres will do the job, much less to stop, much less inertia in the direction change less weight to overcome on the uphill sections.

The Q7 is actually a very capable off roader and could be good in snow if it didn't come in Drug dealer spec as standard.

If the DS3 is on the factory Michelins they are catastrophic in snow, hence why ours went neatly in the bin despite having 6mm on the worst tyre.

where did it snow heavy in the east last night or this morning? i had to pick up a scooter from near Felixstowe no snow there and no snow anywhere on the way but cars with loads of snow on the roof kept driving past in bother directions on the A14

It snowed here on the Norfolk Suffolk boarder and a friend of ours who lives at wattisham had quite a lot of snow from their Facebook pictures

That is a long way from the bit of the A14 I was on, hope they were people car sharing to go to do key work and not just out for a walk down the seaside or visiting people they shouldn't be visiting.

This was Saturday last weekend. Not had any where I am in South Norwich this weekend.

How come so many people still haven't worked out you should bend the wire in a disposable mask so it is snug around the nose, seems even the PM don't know this.

All the ones I've had are flat Al.Al strip

Doesnt stay pinched so ends up being adjusted LOTS.. not ideal for an 9 hour shift

Get the impression only half of people have got the dimensions that 'one size fits all' actually works with.

are you pinching it after its on your face? bend it before fitting like this -^-
when i watch the news of the jabs being given all the people given them have managed it but not so many getting it have.
the people giving the jabs glasses are not steamed up either that a lot of people moan about.

Yes. Yes and

Where all these masks are made they use a separate design of crash helmet mould as it is too different to Europeans head and face dimensions

I watched the latest series of the BBC Hospital sept.oct Covid returning..

I took an interest in the masks and the way they were worn.. a few different techniques.. but many who wear specs just wear a shield instead... limited ptotection
Personally I think that laser eye surgery might help :(

Up until quite recently I would have never challenged someone about a mask while shopping, that is until the last time out purchasing some goodies from the Co op, on entering the store early in the morning, my face covering double on, I was greeted with a young lass buying breakfast, can of coke and a selection of chocolate, no mask. Trying to be pleasant, I said, you’ve forgot your mask, on which she replied.. I’m exempt quite snippy:eek: NOW she was rushing about and you could just tell she was at it. I could’ve been wrong but others on here would have agreed with me if they were present.

I’m beginning to wind myself up needlessly :D Things seem to take on much more feelings at the moment.

I wear glasses it’s a pain but the thing is to tuck the bridge of the nose part of the mask under the glasses so the glasses are holding the mask down, stops it “huffing” up your glasses.

I don’t understand people who wear face shields only but at least they are protecting others to some degree, stops better than nothing. Had to chuckle to myself yesterday l, went for a walk in town while a garage fitted new tyres to the Punto, passed a woman in the street wearing a mask a pair of glasses/goggles then a face screen over that, on her own out in a wide open place. No gloves but touching a hand rail then adjusting the mask/goggles.

So go to all that effort and then touch her face coverings. Given she was outside and all the shops being shut means she wasn’t going in anywhere, she really would be less likely to catch anything to have put all her protection on when she got where she was going then she could have alcohol gelled her hands before doing it, on the way out alcohol gel then take it off.

Again..I wish..

The Chinese masks arent long enough to do that AND go under my chin

And being 'WORK' we can only wear something with the correct standards on the packaging.. so no making your own..

(I suppose I could 'stitch' 1.5 masks together)

Nevermind .. I'll have retired by 2030

I'm sure there are a lot of private vehicles being badly neglected at this time. People thinking that because they are not doing the miles they can just let that service or "wee funny noise" wait for a bit longer.

The Beemer would certainly have given the driver a "woopsie" moment I'm sure. Very neatly parked though so maybe not going at any speed when it happened? I'm not very familiar with BMW's - or any other luxury brands - but I've noticed before how they like aluminium suspension parts. I feel more secure with our good old, rather massive, cast iron bits.
