I wish we’d stop moving the clocks backwards and forwards!
Me too. It gets more disruptive the older I am.I wish we’d stop moving the clocks backwards and forwards!
Jusy buy a PIR and attach to it. More reliable than the tiny bult in PIRs in these flood lights. The stand alone units seem much longer lasting.
I remember, as a youngster living in the country, asking my Mum why the clocks change. She told me it was to make the farmers working day longer. I always found that a rather puzzling explanation, but, at that age, Mum was always right so I just filed it away. I think it's much less applicable today than it was back in the early 1900s when it was first introduced. Up here in Scotland our days are quite a bit shorter than you guys who live down south Sunrise around 9.00am and sunset just before 5.00pm depending on how far north you are. So you're going to work in the dark and returning home after dark. Altering the clocks doesn't really make a great deal of difference. A lot of time pieces still don't auto adjust - I just found out our new cooker, installed yesterday, has to be manually reset which mildly annoys me. We should just stop doing it. I just googled the subject and found it was introduced to save energy around the time of the first world war by making better use of the daylight hours. Pretty irrelevant today with modern working practices. However a surprising number of countries still do it.I wish we’d stop moving the clocks backwards and forwards!
Send it Back!!! I love it when you get ripped off..... I suppose a genuine mistake, but a bit more care wouldnt have gone amiss. If I hadn't paid for a PIR lamp I'd agree but as it is...I've been overcharged for one without![]()
Sorry if this bursts your bubble, but the Philips we knew is not the Philips of today. Google it - Wikipedia gives a good account - for more.
Sounds like the Phillips is a similar design to be honest..View attachment 475641
However meant to have 35000 hour life..or constantly on for 4 years. Lovely solid feeling thing though we shall see.. warranty is 2 years.
I need a light out the back, there's no street light so out the back door is pitch dark which given that's where the Toyota lives is a problem. To be fair original went out sometime in July but there was no real need for it over summer.
Ive experienced this type of failure and now buy better units from our local supplier. They are lasting better so farI’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to, yes in the past they made some bad decisions but I am not aware of them making inherently bad products. I can’t see anything to that effect on the Wikipedia.
The last probably 10-15 years they have definitely gone back to basics and been focusing on the product that made them such a big company to begin with, light bulbs, and as a result they probably make some of the bed bulbs and fittings you can buy these days.
That doesn’t look like one chip it looks like multiple SMDs mounted on a grid, to connect them to their supply.
The sort of cheap and nasty lights I am talking about look something like this
View attachment 475718
That’s not one tiny LEF but a large “COB” chip which can sometimes contain hundreds of LEDS on a single chip, the problem with these is while they are a lot cheaper than seperate LEDs they are poorly balanced so one LED might draw a little more current, one a little less and as a result over powered leds on the chip can quickly burn out sending the power to other LEDS within the chip which then over powers those and burns those out, as a result you find the whole light quickly burns out, and either stops working all together or you get a weird dim glow. From part of the chip and nothing anywhere else. In any case these sorts of hope lights are garbage and is likely the reason that @bugsymikes daughters professionally fitted lights stopped working.
Then because the light is basically a Cob chip and an enclosure if it burns out then you basically has to be replaced as there is no user serviceable bulb to replace that

That's great to hear. So often these days you hear of old established names which have been bought and are now being used as a "brand" on a different manufacturer's goods. Sometimes, like here, it's all to the good, but sometimes you find lesser quality which you've bought because of the name on the packaging.I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to, yes in the past they made some bad decisions but I am not aware of them making inherently bad products. That rings a bell. The controls, "dial" were all on the top when used away from the vehicle I seem to remember. Can't remember what colour though. In the 70s I had a removable car radio by Philips. It was a bttery transiter when removed. It wasnt the best construction appearance, (bright yellow)but it served really well and worked in or out of the car. A really good idea. Why cant someone make this these days?? When fitted into its dock in teh dash it looked just like any other car radion of the time.
Yep. There was a choice of colours but only yellow in the shop. Those were the days! That rings a bell. The controls, "dial" were all on the top when used away from the vehicle I seem to remember. Can't remember what colour though.
I have always had lots of sweet things then lots of savoury things, still crunch up hard boiled sweets etc. but always agressive teeth cleaning three times a day with a firm bristle brush, none of the poncy flossing or electric limp wrist jobs.Dentist appointment this morning... forgot that it was to finish (basically to do an entire) root canal. Ouch (on the wallet)...
And now, stuck delaying that sweet, sweet coffee which makes coming into the office worthwhile until this numbness wears off... blah
Voxxon, fiats finest fitment, the first truly removable car stereos and the first with a front that removed…with the option of fitting to their home stereosIn the 70s I had a removable car radio by Philips. Bush made one too. Which looked very much like this.Voxxon, fiats finest fitment, the first truly removable car stereos and the first with a front that removed…with the option of fitting to their home stereos
Sorry folks, of course there's a brand name on it - BUSH. What I meant to say is no indication of actual manufacturer. I plead old age. I don't think ours was designed to actually be fitted to a car otherwise why would the on/off/volume and station finder wheels be on the side? also the channel selector is on the back. I think you could buy an under dash fitment for the other Bush I'm thinking of? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25707872...287&gbraid=0AAAAADihhqXW-aTSh1WNNq7482Co6HYGL
One can only hope.Wrong light is still ongoing...
The supplier has made it clear if there was a brewery they found themselves inside and some sort of get together needed to be arranged they would be unable.
Finally got to speak to a person today, they will not send the correct light out before I return the other one unless I pay twice and then get a refund once the wrong one arrives back.
I've bought it elsewhere instead, found it a fiver less with the bonus of not giving them anymore money. The return has been arranged.
I've lovingly boxed it for them in a baby wipes box...and padded the entire inside with nappies.
I should say they are clean and can't be donated because it's half a brick of the size the baby grew out of...and yet I still feel like they are going to possibly dislike it![]()
Bush, theres a name from the past. I used to have an old Bush valved radion with SW. Bush used to make top quality stuff but again were bought out and the quality was dispensed with.Bush made one too. Which looked very much like this.

I acquired it many years ago from my brother. I think he took it in as part of a house clearance and found it didn't work. Ay that time I was on a bit of a mission to get better at "fixing" electronic stuff so jumped on it and took it home. Turned out the on/of/volume switch - top one here

Had failed in the off position. Still worked fine regarding volume though. So I patched in a small switch I had, the wee chromed switch, and it's been our kitchen radio for maybe 30 years or more. There's no brand name on it, just a wee label

It does 3 bands

Shared equally between Radio4 and Radio Scotland. Runs on 4 "C" size cells, which are not so commonly found these days.
