Heavily photoshopped.. they don't make buses less than 10 years old do they..?? :p

After what has happened on our ( Oxford) Roads for the last few weeks ,
I'm suprised by NOTHING, :bang:

For your information, the buses used for school runs can be WAY older than that. I know of 3 deckers being used in Buckinghamshire that are from 1984 (A reg).
The problem is that as the local authorities cut back on costs so operators can't afford to run modern buses (buy, maintain and fuel). Eventually someone will have to decide what is more important, Euro 5-6 buses doing 3-4 mpg or Euro 3-4 doing 9-12 mpg. The 1984 buses don't have a Euro rating but return 15-20 MPG. Over a year that's an awful lot of money.

I think that was his point, that the bus in the picture was far too new for it to be real.

95% of the school run tackle around here is on pre 1963 plates :rolleyes:

just to hide the fact that "little johnny" is being transported on a 1980's bus,
and when to Police + gov.inc do spotchecks they find major faults with @ 80% of them.., :bang:

even the "pride of Oxford" fleet is getting on.. I still get on the SAME bus as when I started 13 years ago..:eek:

Unfortunately they increase MPG but lower particulates, it gets to a point where although the engine burns clean it uses so much fuel the health savings are negated by the amount of fuel used and it gets worse if the vehicle is stuck in traffic all the time. The trouble is that unlike cars where engines have been redesigned to be fuel efficient and clean the buses have old engines with bolt on additions to keep them clean.
 
Our latest Euro 6 engined Scania's at work run so clean they don't need to use any adblue type additives and have lower noxious emissions than most cars available for sale today, as they also develop the same power from a five cylinder engine that they used to get from a six cylinder they also use around 8-10% less fuel.
Judging by what I've seen the vast majority of old junk that bus and coach companies run should have been pensioned off decades ago.

In Newcastle stagecoach and arriva are running hybrid double deckers which given their usage cycle with a large amount of time travelling at a walking pace makes sense. However I'd have to guess the kerb weight is the far side of a battle ship. When I first used to get the bus (80s so Leyland Atlantean and Olympians) kerb weight was about 9000kg, they went up went they went to flat foor and air suspension to about 12500kg, I've not stood beside a hybrid bus to find out but I'd bet it'll be pushing 15000kg with batteries. Which excludes from quite a few local bridges. I'm guessing the efficiency of the engines has been outweighed by the addition of 50% extra weight as companies include wheel chair ramps and kneeling facilities.

Out here in the sticks we get nothing that fancy obviously, as the name all the routes now all the buses stay on the same routes day in and day out one is a V plate the other is a 54 plate both are volvo engined and neither can last a week without dropping the contents of its radiator on the road and failing miserably to climb the 500 ft from town to the village loaded. That and we have Londons missing bendys..cos you know not good enough for down south but they'll do here..

I used to go to school on a Leyland Atlantian........ They used to be semi automatic and hummed and shuck so much that you had to raise your voice to speak to your bezzy mate over the whine of the gear box....... But I loved them sooo much - I don't think kids today will have so many fond memories of their super clean polar bear friendly buses. Even the bells aren't as good - anyone remember the "bing" bus stopping sign that rang out when you pressed the strip on the ceiling? Ahh memories

Didn't they have a Wilson pre-selector gearbox that needed rebuilding about every five minutes..:D
 
A women down the road has been pulling out on people and claiming, she did it to my wife luckily the guy behind my wife had a dash cam, and my wife's quick response means she's not one of the 4 "claims" this women has put in in the last 2months ? two people have caught her on cam thank god! I really hope it's jail time ?
