Unfortunately car mechanics is one of those area's where lots of the general public adopt the "ignorance is bliss" approach. The mechanics AND the garages know this which means there's only a small number of decent honest mechanics / garages out there now
.
It USED to be like this in IT back when you could actually make A LOT of money in this field. Now thanks to Google, people being generally more IT savvy and "IT Technicians" with these throw away wipe your ass on qualifications mean you can no longer do so.
I've just found out when replacing my drivers side anti-roll bar drop link that the passenger side one (that a Evans Halshaw Vauxhall main dealer replaced) was done incorrectly. You are meant to put the nut on lock the shaft from the ball joint in a socket & ratchet and use a spanner to tighten the nut (so the rubber boot doesn't twist and rip). They quite clearly used a wizzy gun and ripped the boots to shreds...
