Oh, somebody has moved all of the paperwork from where I'd left it, forgotten where they've put it so I may as well scrap the car as the history file and log book are missing. Instead of being worth £700-£800 it's now worth £250 :bang: :bang: :bang:

div in euro car parts, i go in to buy anti-freeze coolant. concentrated was £20 for 5ltr ready mixed was £9 for 5ltr, so there is me wondering what is the best deal, i needed to know the ration of the ready mixed, so i ask the man

me " what is the ration of coolant to water in the ready to use coolant is it 50/50 or 1/3 coolant 2/3 water?"
man " none its ready to use"

me " i know its ready to use but what ratio of water to coolant is in the bottle?"

man " you don't need water you just pour it in"

me "I'll just take this concentrated one"
man " would you mind putting that one back on the shelf and i'll get you one from the back"
me "what is the difference?"

man don't reply just walks off, i think he just didn't want to have to walk the extra 5 feet to restock the shelf

edit:- now i am more grumpy, just got email and online price for 5ltr concentrated is now only £16

good price too
i would never buy ready mixed as i pay water rates already

hmm on their website it says ready mixed is good down to -36 on the concentrated bottle it said 1:1 is -36 1:2 is -20. so its looking like in the diluted you get 50% neat for less than 50% of the price. i wonderd if they use soft or hard water though :chin:

You can't use deionised water.
It will destroy aluminium,
Something about the electrolytic process when the water moves round.
It can make the equivalent of 15years of poor coolent damage in 12months.

I wouldn't be so sure on that...

Don't forget anti-freeze contains corrosion inhibitors, the tests on aluminium were conducted with literally just deionised water. The antifreeze coats the internals preventing corrosion.

There is another theory that because the water doesn't contain any salts/ions it is less likely to induce galvanic reactions.
