What's made you grumpy today?

Those costumes werent out on sale in order to offend anyone.

If you TAKE offence then surely thats your problem.

People TAKE offence from everything, from homosexuality to jokes about disabilities.

Even if someone has the intent to offend someone else, its no good unless the receptor is open to it.

Offence is Taken, not Given.
.

Not how it works. No different to bullying in the workplace. You may not actively be bullying someone but if someone feels you're bullying them then you've an issue unfortunately.

I can't see this being any different tbh.

So you're implying that "mental patients" do site around the ward in bloodstained strait jackets holding a meat cleaver?

C'mon, get a grip, as the rake says - offence is taken, not given.

Just like people can fly, or drive cars off of a cliff and survive..... In films it's all subjective upon the plot and story line.

yes they are if you wear one you don't suddenly get severe Psychosis,

But what I mean is, calling it that, means that you're pretending to be a mental patient - IE that what people think a mental patient is like, which isn't the case.

That is why its causing offence. Your tarnishing people.

I think the issue was more about the item described as "mental health patient" rather than psycho or similar. Stigmatising all mental health patients as axe wielding lunatics, which obviously isn't the case.

Films don't pretend to claim all mental health patients are murderous nutcases

To paraphrase slightly, If I set a bear trap to catch a bear without the intention if hurting anyone and someone stands on it and loses a leg surely that's their problem?

It wasn't the costume that was offensive perse more the description and implication.

so it just needs a name change then, the tesco one was ok its worse them removing that one as its like saying everyone with a mental illness is a phyco

Doesn't matter what they call it, I'm sure it'll offend someone. Probably going to be people out there with psychosis who - in their more lucid periods - would take offense to their illness being depicted in this way.

when you have psychosis every thing is upside down, back to front and inside out (not literally) right becomes wrong and wrong becomes right, you could get offended by your own shadow following you everywhere you go

No need for a poll, it was offensive.

To make a freak costume named for the mentally ill IS offensive - period.

Imagine a costume with a lump on it named after people with cancer; would that be offensive? Yes! Same thing.

Kids live in a bubble of their own, but occasionally they need to be reminded that they inhabit a larger world, and Tesco and Asda should know better.

So should I take offence when the local council put in more speed bumps so I have to drive slower.... NO

Should I take offence when I go to the swimming baths and not allowed entry as its the ELDERLY session.... NO

Should I take offence when I get ID'd for literally everything(cigarettes, games, spray paint, padlocks..) .... NO

Should I take offence when shops sell shoes in sizes that don't fit me...NO

It's a big world out there, oh wait, I'll stay in, the SUN offends me....

There was no mistake made by Asda or Tesco,

Will they stop selling meat because it offends the vegetarians....

Will they be selling Christmas trees soon for the festive period even though it may offend other religious cultures...

Forget the kids, think the adults need to learn a thing or two.

Don't get me wrong, I've known people who were both mentally ill, and my perception remains.

If YOU take offence, then YOU have the problem.
