Just bought myself a 1999 1.8 bravo hlx. Can anyone give me advice on what to do to it to modify it as its standard just now. And where do u get spotty bits from?

Hi Mate, Had a 1.8 myself and i think there good engines, unfortunately not a lot can be done to it other than an induction kit full exhaust system, decat if you wanna run the risk as there illegal... i had one on mine never got tugged off the rozzers just put the CAT on come MOT time....
You can go and spend stupid money on engine upgrades but no point to be honest...
Bang some 16s or 17s on it and lower it 30/40mm maybe try get an abarth kit on it and it'll look the business..

If you want to mod it be subtle. A near standard car with some tints and nice wheels and a whole ton of cleaning/polishing usually looks a lot better than the barried sheds running around with a million mods that don't fit and are often unpainted or damaged!
If you are lowering some nice eibach springs will get you a comfortable 20-25mm. Ignore the label saying 30-33. thet done go that low. while your at it, some kyb gas a just shock absorbers will smooth the ride and cancel out the slightly harsher ride from the eibach springs.
If you want an exhaust, dont go custom, try for a supersprint cat-back exhaust if you can find one or get one shipped in. custom ones are usually way to loud, and drone. the standard exhaust sounds better by far than a bad stainless steel one, trust me.
An induction kit usually loses you power unless you customise your airbox and hide it in there, and feed it fresh air (you can modify the oe intake slightly for this. I prefer getting a K&N panel filter though, its a lot easier and does the same job)
The next most popular mod is fitting polyelliptical headlights & relatively easy if you take some advice/earch for a guide on fiatBOO first.
Enjoy your car. I think the 1.8 is the best balance of fuel economy/power out of the whole range and the hlx is naturally the best spec.
Oh, a leather interior is nice to have, but your current blue/black is v nice too so dont pay over the odds.
ps, This is all my opinion only, i'm sure someone will disagree. lol.

Regarding a custom exhaust, it is possible to get one made that isn't loud. If the garage is a custom exhaust specialist then they can create and exhaust to your liking with respect to loudness and tone. When I had mine made I was asked how loud I wanted it and how low I wanted the sound. The result was awesome, and not as expensive as you might think - £250 with lifetime warranty.
I agree with everything else that has been said but I would add that the abarth kit looks really nice on the bravo's. They're not over the top and look subtle.

1.8's are really good engines mate and there can be things done with them.
a superchip will cost around £270 which is a bit expensive, but thats because the ecu needs to be removed and the new chip installing. Go to evoultionchips.co.uk and search for a local retailer. you'll be looking at only 8-14 bhp increase but torque transfer is increased considerably and at lower revs too. the only alternative is to go for a piggyback chip, but you will need to have it tuned on a rolling road and costs £500+.
stainless exhausts are not always loud, if you go to a decent place they can be made quieter. They will always have a noise, but not always a droning noise. One way that they do this is by using extra silencers, or a dual chambered compressed backbox. Decats make a difference on them too, but are illegal so if you go there be careful police dont take a look underneath.
air filters work, as long as you dont go for the halfords specials. A decent carbon fibre eclosed cone wil make a nice noise and increase power. theres the BMC CDA which reckon can give 6-8% power increase and acceleration increase.
so it might sound like a lot can be done, but if you shop around for second hand stuff you can end up with some decent performance for a reasonable price.
The only thing i will say, is that the 1.8's can become quite thirsty if you go for a lot of performance mods.
as for styling, i've never liked a bravo standard to be honest. I think they need the abarth kit at least.
a mate of mine is selling a carzone indy add on bodykit for cheap, but it will require painting. Both my mate and me are based in bradford. Mike is after it on here, but because its not mine for sale its 1st come 1st served really. I'll be putting an ad on fiatforum/ebay for it soon.
the mk2 hgt interior is quite nice as its black and dark grey cloth. Its a bit of an upgrade from the HLX interior. failing that you can try and source a leather interior. But people want in excess of £100 for one, and not always in brilliant nick.
If theres ever anything you want advice on give us a shout. Ive got a heavily modded 1.8, and like to think i know the 1.8's reasonably well =).

First off, what you need are huge chrome alloys, swiftly folloed by a big-bore stainless zorst.
Lowering springs really look the biz, so they should also be high on the agenda too.
Now, what about the interior? Those fake leather slip covers are sexy, ideally in pale blue. Of course, you'll want some grooves so invest in a canny MP3 player (of course with IPod connectivity) and a mega-woofer stashed in the boot.
