What the hell have I done?

Ok, just been pulling the power wire through from the battery for the carputer.

Packed everything away and went to move my car. I then noticed that when main beam is on all the left hand indicators are on. On dipped they are fine. Right hand side is fine.

With no lights on indicators work but it flashes the headlights as well!

Now all ive done is push the power cable through the big gromit in the passenger footwell and screw a distribution box down under the rear seat. Now is it likely ive drilled through something under the rear seat or does the wiring for the lights go through that gromit?

Other than that could it be a stalk fault? Im just thinking its something ive done as it was working fine until i did the above and its a massive coincidence if it is the stalk thats at fault.

Anyone help?

Stephen.

you have most likely pushed the cable right through the wiring..

i done the same.. best bet is not to put the cable through ontop of where the wires in the gromet are but next to them at a safe distance.

Theres a little group of wires going through the grommit to the bottom of it, is that right?

I went through at the top, away from those.

what it is.. they are at the bottom and they curl up behind the gromet... uve gone through the wireing...

u need to somehow take out your power cable and wiggle the wires untill ur problems fixed and go back in agin through the side not ontop of it

Rigth, ive had a look this morning and ive just knicked the outer edge of the wires going through the grommet. Can see a few bare strands in there.

Question is how the hell do i fix it? Im pretty desperate here!

basicly the only way i can think of you fixing it is jack up the car .. if u have a engine undertray take it off and go under with a light and some electrical tape and tape up the wires...

Its actually inside the grommet where its caught.

Apart from cutting off the wires either side of the grommet, pulling it out and reattaching them all i dont know what to do!

well i was quite lucky. i suppose wigle and twist the bunch of wires and see if it helps.. try push them wigle them and stuff it might just fix it

I cant see how it would help as there all sealed inside the grommet, im going to try filling it back up with silicone, if that doesnt fix it then im going to have to chop it up.

********.

well give it a go before anything else.. u never know it might fix it.. it fixed mine ....

Hmm, right so i stuck a screwdriver in the hole and the constant indicators have stopped but when i indicate left the left headlight flashes with it.

I'll try more wiggling.

Right, I've managed to get the headlights and indicator seperated but theres no dipped passenger side headlight. Whilst wiggling there was some sparking, could that have blown the bulb?

You might have blown a fuse if sparking occured.

Just wiggling the wires until its fixed isn't much of a solution - you could go over a bump it could re-occur. You'd be far better off examining the grommet close up to establish what has really happened so you can fix it.

Well ive got the grommet out a little bit and im attempting to cut it up to free the wires out of it to see which ones need repairing. Slow going though...

Ahh, so it appears the LH dipped light has its own 10A fuse, which happens to be blown....

All fixed :D

Also, put an extra earth from battery to ground and engine to ground and the car feels totally different! Pulls so much better through the revs now. Anyone else had that whos done the 'Big 3'?

I'd also recommend going through a grommet a bit higher up for stuff going to the boot. There is one that sits up near the windscreen wipers, you will need to remove the plastic covering on the outside at the bottom of the windscreen for easy access. Darren showed me some pics of it when he was doing something to his brava. I haven't actually looked on my bravo for it but there is one in the same place on my mates alfa 156 when running power to the boot for sub and amp. It has no wires going through it so it's ideal. It comes out just behind the glove box.

Yeah I found that one after i'd already made a mess. Made me quite annoyed lol.

Oh well, wirings fixed, power cables in and half a tube of silicone holding the grommet in place now :)
