What size LED's would fit in the roof light? is it the 501's?

Definately not 501s. They are for the sidelights or indicators. What you want are the domed 36mm -39mm or 41mm - 44mm ones. Not sure on size, you will need to measure yours.

They are on my to-do list at the moment. Aswel as LEDs for the dials, switch panel and electric window switches.

Im after this type of effect.

Joske are you sure that the leds up with be that bright ? Should we go for 10W ?

Yeah the illumination is just from the ceiling lights. Dont forget the RX8 is 4 door, and so has another ceiling light for rear passengers. So more illumination.

I'm thinking of fitting a Brava's rear courtesy light in the rear for the rear passengers and to also come on when the front doors are open.

In regards to Caterado, 10W ones maybe too bright. However thats your choice. The ones in the pic are 5W.

Sorry guys but you will not get that kind of effect. I have tried most things and ended up making my own. Very very bright as wimmy will tell you when I came up to collect the wind deflectors.

The problem is because LED give a direct light where as a normal bulb gives and overall glow. The bulbs can't face straight down due to the metal around them to give them the power.

I used 36 ultra bright LED and a couple a resistors then drilled 5mm holes in the roof of the Interior light. Will post pics of this for you both.

If you do go a bulb like above, get as many leds in the bulb as poss. They do different versions 4LED, 9LED 18LED etc etc. Get the biggest, more money but will give more brighter light. Also You could try painting the interior light roof silver to bounce off more light.

This is not a good pic but you will have to take my word that it is bright.

I see what are you talking about.

You got some really nice blue interior :)

looks good, does it light the whole car tho? or is it a similar light coverage to the standard interior light?

My lights different to that one Stu. Not sure but i dont have a sunroof so maybe that may explain.

Stu i will need a chat with you mate, so i will email you in a few mins.

Cheers for the pics.

I would say it lights a good 1/2 to 3/4 of the car. It is very difficult to light the whole car due to the location of the interior light being at the very front. Also the Led's only give you between 30deg and 45deg angle of light.

The light I do get is very bright. If I need the interior light on then I switch the pasanger map light on because it can hurt your eyes.

Custom made would give you better light and cost me £13 for all the Leds and the few resistor I put in.

Give me 10 mins. Will try and get my dads digi cam for some more pics for you.

@Joske. Ok mate no probs. Also I have air con and no sunroof so I don't know why yours would be different.

I also have a similar idea with the Bravo rear lights.

You can drill into the main red ring in the back light and add alot of the oversized Red LEDs in there and remove the three bulbs. Then connect all the LEDs to the wiring.

Again things to do and also need a spare rear light to practise on. :)
