It's a coolant fan for the injectors. Runs up to the inlet mani. Pretty pointless (in this country at least) and most people just loose them. Doesn't throw up a light or anything.

aye, 99.9% of PGT's in the UK don't have that anymore - I left it there cause she is bone stock and i liked that everything that should be there was there (bar that one pipe that draws air over the alternator)

It's supposed to be attached to the bottom of the battery tray but one of the mounts rusted out, I've put it back on but assuming that the gearbox needs to come out I'm just going to leave it off.
fair play that, tbh if i were you i wouldn't be sticking it back on until after you sorted teh gear issue either... and probably a clean up and lick of black paint

I'd already put it all back together assuming that all was well after the cylinder replacement. Spoke to a company in Morley that specialise in gearboxes and they reckon between £100-150 depending what's up, so about the same price as a 2nd hand box, only I know what I'm getting in this case should be good for ages so it sounds like a good deal to me
certainly a better plan than an unknown 2nd hand box
