Ok - I have my sat nav mounted on a disc glued to the dashboard horizontal bit.

On a hot day - the sat nav tends to overheat.

Considering moving it away from the windscreen and about the only place I can see where I could put the bracket is in the centre of the control panel but that would mean obstructing the bit marked with the arrow in the photo.

Is this the microphone for the handsfree phone etc ? Or something else ?

My guess is that this is for the climate control, to sense the temperature in the cabin.

The Bluetooth microphone sits between the vanity lights. If you have the Bluetooth phone thingy installed. As far as I know. Can't be bothered to haul out my car manual to check right now.

Thanks guys - I think I have managed to find a spot - to the left of the stereo just into the dash cubby hole.

Correct, internal temp sensor so you don't want to block it

Are you sure? I always asumed that this was the place where the beeping sound comes from for the speed limit and seatbelt warning. I thought the internal temp sensor was somewhere on top of the dashboard near the front window.

No i'm not sure and stand corrected but always presumed that's what it was, the 500 has similar

It is definitely where the air temperature sensor goes IF you have climate control (CC), which has digital controls, not the rotary heating controls in the photo.

If CC is fitted, then there is a very small fan behind there which draws air over a temperature sensor and this adjust the heating. An additional sensor on the dash top detects sunshine and ramps up the cooling when the sun's shining in.

Since The Shootists car doesn't have CC, it is fine to block the grille - there's nothing behind it in cars without CC

Correct - the mic (used both fro bluetooth calls and voice control of BlueAndMe) is between the spotlights of the roof light
