Having just completed the engine rebuild and mounted the gearbox and transmission to it I discovered this hole on the underside of the crankcase. It isn’t threaded and I have seen it in another photo of a completed car.
Before I go ahead and refit the engine can anyone tell me what this is for please? Hope I haven’t missed anything out in the rebuild!

That’s a locating hole for factory, where it sits and is held down on an engineered flat surface during the boring out the aluminium of cylinder block to receive the barrels.
