Technical What I think of the windscreen washers on the 500

My washers are still fine even though the car has been out in this freezing weather! I guess they'll break this weekend now

As for the wipers juddering, mine used to judder when I cleaned the screen with Autoglym Shampoo or Window Cleaner and since switching to Dodo Juice shampoo and only washing the screen with that, they've been fine.

I bet yours go very soon Lloyd as mine were fine until I read this thread then out it popped!

Yes why? Well, it was a water bottle originally, even better for measuring as it's covered in ribs all the way down!

As I said though, you pour the appropriate amount into a 2l coke bottle and then add water. Hey presto properly diluted washer fluid without the guesswork

The barrel on the drivers side washer jet fell out of mine last week on the motorway, I hadn't used the washers beforehand.
I've had the washer fluid so concentrated it hasn't frozen at all.
Possibly the barrel contracting in very cold temperatures?
Been minus 11 here a couple of times recently.

But then....

The washer barrel on my wife's 500 fell out 2 days later, same fault, same side, same week!

Just topped up my fluid, 50/50 mixture but it wasn't even cold last night anyway, now the passenger side has gone too! So I've got 2 broken washer jets now. I know the cold can cause this issue, but i think the main problem is the pressure is too strong for the weak design.

My drivers side Washer wasn't working and I think I bought it like that! There is a flat blade screw head set in the side of the Washer body..I turned that till the holes appeared and it seems OK.(touch wood)

Got mine replaced this morning, the guy told me to pop in with my Wife's 500 whenever I want - he said they've got 'millions' of them in stock.
Hmmm..... wonder why?

My second one has just gone - replacement ordered. Been told that they have done a few, but never had to do one more than once. Perhaps the replacements fit better? If either go again I'm just glueing the things in..

The drivers side washer jet is just dribbling, passenger one is just fine. Possibley a blockage? Only just happened and its a bit dark to check at the mo.

I suffered with the nozzle problem last night, my N/S one popped out, just popped it back in again for now.

This is also happening on my Ka.

Seems to be only the drivers side which does it. Luckily it hasn't fallen completely off yet, just half of it comes out.

Think I may "lose" one soon and get a replacement from Fiord so i will actually have one spare in an emergency! It's quite a dangerous thing to go wrong i think. If the police stopped you without adequate washer jets i believe you could get fined. It'll also fail the MOT I'm sure...

Thats a point! might be easier to just buy the part from ford. Obviously not whilst under warrenty but I am not far off the third year warrenty and ford dealer is 2min away whereas nearest Fiat 30 min away and decent one 30miles!
Anybody know the price? and am I right in thinking the whole bit gets replaced not just the tiny barrel?

so finally today i seem to have the washer jet problem-

the drivers side just dribbles out-

this just a case of popping the unit back into the housing?...in the first instance at least?

My washer jets on the front windscreen have gone into a drizzle after
a very harsh frost. i've read this thread about the washer jets popping out but what i don't understand is what actually pops out? does anybody have a pic?

Welcome to the forums! No pic I'm afraid but there's a circular barrel inside the washer housing, if you want to adjust the angle of the washer there's a screw slot in the end of this barrel, there's 3 holes in the side of the barrel where the water comes out.
It's the barrel that comes out, leaving the washer housing with a hole like a small letterbox aiming at your windscreen.

There is a hole on the side of each jet mount (the hub that sticks up from the bonnet) is there ment to be anything inside this?

They were working fine up until a few days ago now its just a dribble on both sides. Really annoying when is the time of year when you need them the most. :bang: looks like i will be getting in contact with my dealer asap.

Puntostar - How did you remove that? i can't see no way of getting to the jets?
