Technical What I think of the windscreen washers on the 500

I swear Fiat haven't changed the design on purpose. It's cheap to replace for them and gets people into the showrooms looking at brand new cars etc. It's a scam i tell ya! What kind of firm can build cars but not washer jets!

I agree, car is two years old now, surely they could of developed a fix, would take someone half a hour and surely not too expensive to change the manufacture.

Puntostar - How did you remove that? i can't see no way of getting to the jets?

I didnt remove it, this is the part thats meant to be inside the washers that directs the water onto the windscreen.

This pops out and they stop working as they should so the whole unit needs to be changed by the dealer.

oh i see jesus you would think they would of designed them alot better rather than having a bodge job.

Does anyone know if the washer system is specific to the 500 or a universal Fiat fitment?

My washers (Doblo) have always worked just fine, except for being a bit blocked once or twice - as in all cars - and this was fixed by shoving a pin into the ends to free the blockage. I get a very adequate blast from all six jets, even through the snow on the bonnet.

I know the Punto Grande jets are built into the scuttle panel so they wont work, not sure on the panda, bravo ect. I would think its only a hole in the panel so a set from another make car should fit some how.

I cant see fiat changing the design, i expect they have made thousands of them so need to get rid of them 1st.

A quick call to Pewsham Garage & they said "that's something we always carry stock of, pop it over about 12o'clock & it'll be done in 10 mins, can't moan at that.
Call yourself a 500 owner? *shakes head*

You could have at least driven down the road with no washers in the snow and slush and then gone into the back of someone and blamed it on Fiat. There was a woman on the news yesterday who had pranged her VW somethingorother into a bollard in Edinburgh and smashed it up nicely who was blaming the local council. I didn't realise the local council got in your car and drove it you dozey biznitch! :ROFLMAO:

Judging by all the idiots without lights, hadn't cleared the snow from their lights or staring through mail slot wholes in their windows it would be far better if the council did drive their cars for them.

Once the snow and ice has gone must sort mine out :( (50 miles to the Abarth dealer or 20 to a Fiat one if I'm lucky enough they'd do it for me)

I can't see why a Fiat dealer wouldn't be prepared to do Abarth warranty work. If they don't that's the nail in the coffin for me getting an Abarth.
Well other people on here have said that Fiat garages won't work on their Abarth. Silly IMHO as there's nothing (mechanically) special about a 500 Abarth

That's pathetic, if it's true an Abarth is now off the list of new cars as I'm not going to Wales every time I need something sorting.
Confirm with some Abarth owners but that's the truth AFAIK. It was done originally to give Abarth owners the feeling that their service was going to be better and give the brand more exclusivity etc etc.

I were talking the just the washer jet barrels why not ask your dealer to put a few spares in the post. The parts can only be worth pennies anyway.

Here's a response from Fiat about getting warranty work carried out on an Abarth when asked if it has to ge to an Abarth centre via their online chat.

Ben R: Good morning Mark welcome to Fiat, my name is Ben. I understand that you have a query, how can I help?
Mark Elvin: I am looking at buying an Abarth Essese to replce my current 500, however, I am told that only Abarth centres can carry out warranty work on Abarths, is this true?

Ben R: This is correct. The Abarth is a specialist vehicle and we have trained mechanics who are equipped to operate on them at our approved centres around the UK. The same is true of the Fiat brand, warranty work must be completed at our own approved dealers.

Mark Elvin: But the 500 abarths mechaniicals are identical to other Fiats, even the engine is just lifted from a 1.4 Punto sporting. There is nothing specialised about the mechanicals at all.

Mark Elvin: 95% of the parts are carry over from a standard 500.

Ben R: We have a specialist team set up to deal with enquiries relating to the Abarth range of vehicles. They may be able to offer you some more constructive reasoning behind this decision. Would you like their contact details?

Mark Elvin: Yes

please as this is a ridiculous situation.

Couldn't agree more with you Mark. The way Abarth has been launched is shambolic IMHO. They seem to have completely forgotten the competition arm, the different dealer network is a dumb idea and not being able to get warranty work done at a nearby Fiat garage is just stupid. I'm sure most people don't mind travelling to buy a car but travelling to have it repaired under warranty?
