Had to call the AA out yesterday as think the whole Panda cruze finally took its toll on Poppi and she had a fit and would not run without the aid of the choke.

So the nice guy gave poppi the once over and cleaned her jets as well as done her points and now she is running as sweet as a nut again. She has a lot more pull now actually.

They done that

Victoria our 750L never ever got that treatment from them when we had problems with the points!

Surprised the AA chap knew what points were even nowerdays :p

Was up til 3 last night getting our Italia 90 ready for its MOT (and getting the Waxoyl etc out too, swapping bumpers (black for white) etc etc). So chuffed (and relieved!) that it passed! Great to now be able to drive it. Seems to drive well (feels very fresh) but still a bit spluttery etc, think it needs using after years off the road. :)

Good stuff (y). Was that carpet of any use in the end?

Yeah think the guy liked poppi actually. He was actually a Astin Martin mechanic. Was expecting a big yellow van like what you turned up on at the panda meet last year (sorry couldn't resist that one) Instead it was a Silver Transit with Customer assist plastered over it. The guy was here about an hour. :)

:p Thanks for remiding me  :ROFLMAO:

I assume they're the xzeon bulbs that you were on about martin and not an illegal aftermarket hid system? Which bulbs did you got for in the end? You manage to get P45T based bulbs easily enough or did you need to get some converters to take H4 bulbs?

Jon

Hi Jon, to be honest I'm not sure. They look like standard (blue) H4 bulbs - they are brighter, I shall pop my standard bulbs back in for MOT later in the year.

Cool Cool. Yeah should like just the xeon/xzeon (sp?) bulb which are ok. As HID kits involve installing new wiring etc, so doesn't sould like thats what you've done lol (y)

Popped over to Hereford this weekend to fit new plugs, leads and distributor cap to my 750L. Daughter was having trouble getting it started when the weather was wet, the choke position was even more critical with the HT circuit below par.

Leads should have sorted that hopfully.

Points all correct are they?

Yeah, did the dwell a couple months ago. You're right to highlight the leads Jon, I think they were the main culprit but it never does any harm to have new plugs, and I just changed the cap because I had a new one already (Ebay bargain a few weeks ago).

Hey good luck Craig!

Thanks to Vernon, I'm now the proud(ish) owner of the '...but be quick' 4x4 that I need to get to a rolling road and MOT before snow goes :p
Had the front pipe done but one of the manifold bolts sheared :( (though it ain't blowing held with the remaining 2 studs so it should be okay)
The guy I bought it off positioned it behind the van as I set up the A frame, so I didn't realise just how bad the brakes were till I got home later that night on New Years Day (just managed to stop on the handbrake before running into the back of the camper when parking up  !!) Next morning found no fluid in reservoir at all... but not been able to find a leak ... brakes bled and topped up now (bloody cold working on the drive for the past couple of days an' all!) but still not over-confident that they are going to be okay on MOT. Failures were minor though:

1. offside headlamp aim too far to the right.
2. Nearside headlamp not in good working order adversely affecting beam image. (bulb incorrectly fitted - the testing station quoted over £150 for a new h/lamp and fitting!!!)
3. offside front direction indicator insecure. (superglued with Q-Bond back onto h/lamp)
4. front (pipe) Exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases. (had rusted through)
5. offside front tyre tread dept below requirements of. (fitted spare - okay)
6. Front brake application uneven.
7. Front brakes imbalanced.

6&7 may have been down to low fluid level - but where it went is not yet clear... rear wheel cylinders are fine and I haven't found any leaks or signs of fluid round the calipers

Good news is she looks okay underneath though she has had some plating (doh) to rear inner sill and a N/S wing sometime in the last maybe 5 yrs by the looks of it (same as the CLX) - that seam will need attention.
But the 4x4 works okay and she's running good... though the FSH is a bit lacking (I like receipts - job lot...)
oh, and the N/S rear plastic trim is cracked and lost it's 4x4 badge
(y) cheers Vernon!

I was wondering how this one turned out lightweightmick! Not perfect, but the issues with it don't seem too bad, all the important areas sound fine. I think you may have a very nice car there come the spring (y).

Good luck with your mot craig!
