if you get a cb and intend to use it alot you need to set the aerial and rig up correctly by setting the "SWR" for this you need a meter but they are cheap on ebay failiure to do this can damage the rig.

Cool cheers urchin your right...As far as i know the springers come already trimed though so no need for SWR and look over the top cool!!

SWR meters are needed for most aerials..if you look at yours you will see a small allen key grub screw...this is used to "Trim" the aerial..for this you use a SWR meter...but i think the "Springer" type ones dont need it...This is what the cb guy and the info said...Urchin i guess this is right???..If so Jon you are ok..(y)

Kev, I think you are right. The ones with the tuning springs are set and ready to go.
Thunderpole (google it) has a good selection of radios, aerials and kits. That's where my CB in the Landy came from.
Also for info if you ever loose the whip out of your aerial (as I have done several times driving under trees etc.) Maplin online do a competivly priced replacement.

I thought I'd finally spill the beans after managing to upload the pic's.

Dad's already neat Selecta went to the bodyshop about 10 days ago to have all the little nicks sorted and the wheels painted up, and here are the results :) :D

We're well impressed :)

Those pictures of the white Panda are great. It makes me sad to think that they were never sold in Australia...(n)

Not 100% sure, but that rings a bell, think they sell stuff through eBay and by chance thats where mine might have come from.

Jon.

EDIT, just checked and it can't have been.

Craig for refrence, this is all I brought:

The mount you'd probably need to get a mag mount though.

Well, off to Hereford this morning with the Blue CLX, my Daughter is going to take care of it for a few months until I can sort her out something of her own. :(

My plan to keep it's ultra low mileage low has gone off the rails a bit, though to be fair, she won't need to go far.

Anyway, to make sure it survives as well as possible I spent yesterday afternoon changing the oil and filter, putting on some more polish, and generally having another check around. I also swapped wheels with the 750L as I want to change the tyres that were on the CLX for some a bit wider, it only had 145's which were a bit of a stretch for those alloys. While the wheels were off I also clicked up the self adjusters on the brake shoes a tad, they can always be encouraged to go an extra click without binding, and it just improves the feel of the pedal.

I'm bringing back her bicycle to sell, the proceeds will go towards her Panda fund, reckon she'll have about £250 to spend in total. Hmm It's looking like the green CLX I bought just for it's drivers door may have to be pressed into action if it passes inspection, options are few with that budget. Watch this space!

Well I'm back from Hereford and Daughter now has the CLX. Despite diabolical weather it drove beautifully, and whatever Fiat did to evolve the Panda during the eight years between making my 750L and this CLX, it has certainly made a more refined car for the longer distances.

Duaghter is very happy with it, and even loves the multi coloured polka dot seats. I may struggle to get it back once I've got her one of her own. :(

For some reason the wheels/ tyres from the 750L don't look right on it so I will be keen to change them back as soon as possible.

I really must visit her more frequently now to ensure all is well, but that's fine coz I can see my Daughter at the same time. ;)

dull but required, oil change. Ditched the 20W50 I put in when my first oil pressure gauge was telling me my oil pressure was pathetic and put the usual 15W40 semi synth back in to help the now sky high oil pressure when cold (which is most of the time).
oh and took the second fuel filter back off. grumble's been behaving himself for a while now so I'm going to chance it.
Andrew.

Some considerations about CB antennas in a panda (Google translation form Portuguese to English):

The "ellipses" in blue is the efficiency of the antennas (the greater the distance to the center of the quadrant, the higher the income).

Solution A (antenna on the roof):
2lx9w9l.jpg

Undoubtedly the best solution, because the antenna is free of obstacles your income is uniform. This is due to have a larger ground plane (to lay the metal on the antenna).

Solution B (antenna on the hood):
11m4znt.jpg

This is a compromise, because the antenna placed on the bonnet, as you can see your income is limited, much due to its ground plane and the antenna being concealed by the body.

Solution C (antenna in bumper):
f5ddfq.jpg

Without doubt the worst solution, because much of the antenna is concealed by the body of the Panda, and its ground plane is reduced. By the logic yield opposite the Panda should be the worst, but here the body increases due to the effect of reflector radiating part of the power back.

I hope all these cb rigs are coming out for the shows:) I have had my rig since the mid 1980's but its found a new lease of life now talking car to car on the way to shows. thats where my user name "urchin" comes from it was my handle "back in the day" but its not funny when twenty years later someone shouts it across tesco!

Like the idea of a chat on runs/shows...cb's seemed to go out of favor but it makes sence for us....(y)

Jon...white car white aerial...(y)...5 footer!!!
