First question is what material i s best to cover up 6x9's on a parcel shelf so you cant see them as added security? plus second question is whats the best way to mount 6x9's on a pacel shelf? sorry im retarded hehe;)

make an mdf parcel shelt with the speakers mounted lower than the top via mdf speaker rings
then cover the shelf with cloth
that way you get a nice flat finsh
you can go the other way of raising the cloth/shelf around the speakers or even copying the OE punto shelf design

Hmmm, I've never known anyone to cover them. Will it not distort the sound?

ive got same issue. had all sorts of probs with head unit in the end went and bought a jvc so heads up is fine. cars already wired in for amp and sub. just taken my parcel shelf out until i can suss what to do.
ive got a set of 6x9 alpines look really nice but thats the prob dont want them looking really nice to thieves. also speaker shelf is damaged on corners mk2b punto 3 door type.
my options as i see them.
1. repair the round corners with p40 put the alpines back in and cover the whole thing with black speaker material.
2. get a new shelf £20 and re fit alpines and rely on the rear tints goin in.
3. 18mm mdf shelf im a carpenter.
4. 2x9mm mdf glued together but cutting the speakers in so resembling oem shelf.
5. as 4 but dropping a 40mm deep box all round the bottom.
im thinking of the wieght issue of the mdf shelf to be honest

The standard shelf can be cut to take a pair of 6x9s but its becomes very weak and floppy. Its also a pig to cut neatly.

An MDF shelf with the speakers UNDER the shelf sounds better and some stretchy nylon/ lycra cloth over the top looks good and hides the speakers without affecting the sound.

as for the rear tints going in are you having all three done or just the back one?
ive got tints with my speakers and you cant see them unless you right up closs as in hands on window looking in lol and no problems yet as for the mdf its really flimsy (unless i got the wrong one) plus with the subs mine kept cracking?? so every now and then it would fall in and i would have to keep making new shelf

Well during the world cup i.e. now :) I have used an England flag to cover them up, works pretty well and doesn't distort the sound.
