General What a difference a wheel trim makes....

We are delighted with our new Fiat 500 and are really pleased to now have the Vintage Wheel Trims fitted which were missing when the car was delivered. Also we now have our own number plate which only took five days to come through so thanks DVLA.

I think that the difference is quite subtle but everyone who had seen the car before has spotted them. I think that they suit the car well and help the retro look that we were after.

Its very interesting to compare the car to the Mini One which we also have at present and despite having had three new minis (One, Cooper and S) my wife prefers the Fiat (thank goodness). The Mini is sportier, faster and better built but lacks the charm of the Fiat and its light drive which suits the short local trips that the car is likely to be used for. Also we prefer the funkier Fiat interior and are pleased with our red/black choice.

Have to say I'm not a fan tbh and think the normal wheeltrims are probably a better longterm proposition because I think the chrome is going to scratch and just generally look nasty after a year or so of brake dust, salt and crud. Each to his/her own though

You may be right about how the vintage trims will fare and I am planning to obtain a standard set from eBay etc for next winter. My wife thinks that this is going too far so I will now show her your post!

I have the Vintage Wheel Trim - and it was still looking pretty good after 18 months .. alas the allure of those multispoke alloys was too much ...

I'm no fan of these I must say, since the 500 is quintessentially a very modern car I reckon modern alloys suits it more. But then that's only me.

Still Nick2, here's what I find even more vintage looking hubcaps (or are they alloys?) that could inspire you (maybe )

And I have spent the last hour googling my a** off to find pictures of white-painted wheels on the New 500, not the whole tyre but just like the original 500s such as the following. (I saw it somewhere last month but I bloody can't find it anymore! :bang
