Bit out of my comfort zone. I found a tiny rust patch and started digging with a screwdriver........but I already knew there was a small hole in the wheel arch which i had buried with underseal.

I spent a few days looking at it and wondering how to approach it. In the end I made the hole bigger and can hopefully get it looking good. I bought a mig welder for the job and for now I only have flux core. Completely overlapping spot welding with flux core (mig without gas) is not really possible with my equipment. I have 4 switchable voltage settings. I have added in series with the ground cable, two jump start cables and a 6m length of power cable to reduce the voltage so I can avoid blowing holes in the .75mm metal which has definitely helped. I am going to use 1.25mm for the repair pieces which is ok to spot to. The flux core leaves a messy residue with metal splatters which is next to impossible to remove once you get many spots in place.
