Technical Weird temp activity & no fan

Update - fitted a new fan and actually used the car today after doing some other gubbins.

All seemed well until car lost power.

Fan working, coolant level good, heater pumping. So in my mind thermostat is working and coolant is circulating.

Car smelt like it was overheating…

Why power loss?
You said when you read the codes there was a misfire logged

Fan will no fix this

Is the misfire still being logged

The loss of power, once it's happening iis it permanent, f you switch the engine off and back on is it normal, if you let it cool down does it go back to full power

No that's another issue that is solved.

After reading some other posts on power loss, and the clock not keeping time, I bought a new battery, took the car for a long drive and it seems ok now. Clock is keeping time too.

What is the normal temp gauge position for the 1.2 8V?

Should be halfway in the first few miles and stay there

If you coast down hill, and suddenly put the heaters on full it will drop slightly for a minute but recover to halfway

This is the range I’m seeing on the gauge - most of the time driving it’s nearer the dot, then in traffic or giving it beans it’ll rise to midway. I’ve activated the fan with multiscanecu but not heard it run by itself yet. Normal?

Looks like it is running cold (pic 1) Thermostat not closing would be my guess. Temp should be like pic 2 all the time when running a few miles.

Correct 👍

Explanation here

Unless you use the Aircon you can go years without hearing the fans running

No.

The picture at 14:09 is the normal position for the temperature gauge when driving.

If it remains more than momentarily in the position shown at 14:11, this is indicative of a faulty thermostat. A rubber seal inside fails, allowing water to flow when it shouldn't, so the car doesn't reach normal running temperature.

This will lead to a significant increase in fuel consumption, so it's worth getting this sorted.

A new thermostat should fix the problem.

There are two types; a later one with a built in temperature sensor, and an earlier one without. 2010 was the crossover year, so if doing it yourself (it's a straightforward enough job), make sure you buy the correct part.

I have the earlier type, and mine failed exactly like this a few years ago. I fixed it myself, so come back if you need any more help. I can share a couple of tricks to make the job a bit easier.

Great stuff, thank you guys. I’ve done this on my daughters 500 before, it’s straight forward. Thanks for the tips on doing this on the Panda. Just amazing the little quirky things!

Is there a way to visibly identify the correct thermostat on my 2010 1.2 8V 4x4 60hp model before I order the new thermostat?

No sensor my the looks of things.
