Hello, I have a problem with the water pump of my punto 55, because I think it loses water for it, and I want to try to change the pump directly without disassembly anything else (except the protective plastic cover) just loosen the tensioner of the timing belt. The problem I see is to put the pulleys back to point because I would not have access to the crankshaft pulley. Do you know if the crankshaft can be blocked? do you think i can do the replacement of the water pump in that way?

Thx

Next time check some Guides (Punto and other models with same engine).
You can set timing with camshaft mark and clutch marks (0, 5, 10, 15 degrees - you set 0).

Thanks for the answers. The belts are recently changed, I just needed to change the water pump that now is giving problems, so now I need to change it and I want to disassemble as little as possible.

its no big job to just do this properly... slacken alternator, remove belt, 3 bolts on bottom pulley and remove. Turn engine by crank til its lined up with timing marks, slacken timing belt tensioner, remove timing belt, remove water pump and replace, then put it all back in reverse.

Trying to not take anything off is just gonna make this job harder and take longer imo - I could totally do the whole job in 20 mins so why bother trying to not take parts off??

As already said, doing it properly is easier than bodging half of it. It's only a couple of hours job anyway, the way you are planning it may take you twice as long and you may get the timing out anyway. The parts cost will be trivial, the tensioner pulley is the simplest in the industry and the timing belt the cheapest. New water pump cost will be less than 35 quid I would think, I paid 60 euros last week for a Ford Escort TD one that is almost twice the part and solid cast iron with a stainless steel impeller.
