Technical Water in the engine...

if im getting a new engine..

will a 1.6 stilo engine go straight in? or will i have to change lots of other things ie gearbox, ecu etc..?

if i want to change engine only will it HAVE to be 1.4 16v?

or are there any others that would fit? i'd even consider 1.2  if it would fit... with swapping engine only
This has been discussed before Coyle.

You MUST keep your existing ECU (or replacement if it's now defective) which means you can only fit the same engine. You might be able to fit a 1.2 (being almost identical) but remember you'd still have to use the ECU from your 1.4

You might still have problems as I'm not aware that anyone has actually done this with a Stilo.

You'd be far safer with a 1.4 (y)

From Colyes description I'd say engine survived it's first encounter with the water (filter soaked in water stopped the engine - which is good!).

I think the problem was that his dad gave it a bit of welly which sucked a fair volume of water into the engine which had been residing within the GSR induction tubing overnight. Result is bent (or even broken) connecting rod

Hopefully I'm wrong though.

don't normally get sparks from underneath with hydro-lock  i wonder if you just got water in electrics an banging is really just bad misfire?

you shouldn't have a problem finding another 1.4 the cento boys find them all the time.

with the help of a haynes manual for a punto ( as there isnt one for a stilo) and members here you should be able to change engine your self, shame you are not nearer as i would come an help

i think thats the case.. the dodgy non starting may have been plugs only..

but the driving with water in the sytem defo broke soemthing it was a loud bang, with loads of smoke, and i reckon thats what the sparks were from too

if you could help find another 1.4 16v that will fit i'd be so greatful. i just called fiat and its £2300 for a recond one!
i know someone who will fit it for £400.. but obv if i could do it with help id prefer that..

when searching for the engine do i look for Stilo 1.4 16v engine? or is it used in other more common fiats.. making it easier to find?

mk2b punto sporting, panda 100hp gp starjet if you change a few bits, am sure there are others too.

ebay searches should be for the cars being broken, fiat 1.4 16v engine, an wheel nut or wheel bolt, as some times breakers list the nut to get around ebay rules,

when you fit it i would remove front bumper an put it on your bed an put blankets over your wings to prevent scratchers from tools

1.4 grande punto?

t jet is the turbo one, dont think you will get one of them everyone wants them, starjet is n/a. 1.4 16v active sport grande will go in, do they exist?

i confused myself..

i thought you said tjet not starjet..

now i realise the 1.4 16V punto is the starjet i would need.
these engines look few and far between.. but i cant afford £2300 before labour!

looks good to me Jon..

but going on what Argo said the 1.6 wouldn't work?
it would have to be a 1.4 16V in order for it all to work?

iv got no idea? if this would work, id have it in a heartbeat?

anyone help....

it would be too much messing about to get it to work, will need more than just the engine, if you go for bigger engine it be better to buy a whole smashed up jtd an swap every thing
