Ooo, an update - at least the UPLOAD is a lot more useful (y)

"Please sir, can I have some more?"

Virgin Media to boost top broadband speed from May

Virgin Media is to break broadband speed limits later this year, by doubling the speed of its flagship 'XL' cable broadband service, from 10Mbp/s (megabits per second) to up to 20Mb/ps.

The 100% speed increase will mean an MP3 music track could be downloaded in around two seconds* and will make the XL broadband service the fastest (widely available) home internet connection in Britain.

Bandwidth boosting will take place from May and will coincide with a small price increase on the fastest broadband service, from £35 to £37 per month. Upstream speed will also be increased, to 768Kb, and all Virgin broadband services will continue to offer unlimited downloads and an online security package.

Ernie Cormier, chief commercial officer of Virgin Media, said: "We want to make entertainment and communications the simple and exciting world it should be, but our technology also means we can offer an ultra-fast broadband service that our competitors can't match.

"For internet savvy customers who want the best broadband money can buy, our XL service is perfect for speedy downloading and uploading - whether it's music, videos, podcasts or blogs."

Slight update :D

Now phoned them up, offered me XL Broadband [10Mb now, 20Mb in May plus 768kbps upload], M Phone and XL TV [up from L TV] all for £37 per month. I am happy about that :)

Only issue, an installation slot - currently end of April  BUT I may be able to get squeezed in sooner. Aargh... and I can't even use Dial up either

Im looking forward to the 20 meg, i have 10 meg at the moment, and for an extra 2 quid im not complaining. I hear they are already working on a 50 meg connection. Im gonna need a bigger hard drive!!!

missing out on sky one really isnt a big deal as bit torrents are the way forward! :slayer:

if anyone here has a high package, then i advise you to do what i did:

We are running XL internet (10mb) Tv (not sure what size) and 2 phone lines, I phoned virgin and ask about upgrading to V+ they said we can do it for £3 more a month! it's crazy, got installed yesterday and it's brilliant!

and possibly the best thing about it is, virgin have hundreds of programs (full series) recorded on their end, and if you want to watch them, you just go in to the menu select them and watch them FREE!!
and these arn't crappy small programs theres some good stuff here... for example Spooks series 2 3 and 4 (5 coming soon) on top of SPACED! yes Spaced! series 1 and 2, virgin give you so much, i'v actually forgotten that i've lost sky 1...

man, thats a lotta p....educational videos
Hmm, I think you will find none of that on here :)

Anyway, the VM salesman never called me back to confirm the installation date, so I phoned up today on the landline he had given me, and ended up leaving some voicemail with some sales manager, no idea who he was :chin: so much for a direct line...

He never returned the call, so then I phoned the Sales team on the normal number, and the girl checked my account - they have managed to squeeze me in next Friday :woot: so a month without the net is not an option anymore, how would I cope :p

However, give them their credit - the 3 times I have called the Sales line, I have been speaking to someone within a few minutes, so none of this hanging around for hours, listening to music....

i just bought another two 300gb drives. so thats now, 300gb + 300gb + 300gb + 250gb. ace.

im on adsl though, so only 8mb here with no hope of an upgrade :(

I phoned up VM and asked them to check if there were any better deals I could be on..

Got TV XL, Family TV, Phone Evening+Weekends, and Internet XL (10mb) for £56. But for 3 months got the broadband for half price (£17.50), with the option to renew the offer in 3 months ;)

£57 a month and only got 4mb broadband.

Family pack includes pretty much every kids tv channel every broadcast. Means we have Thomas the Tank Engine and The Backyardigans for James in the morning. Extra 30 minutes in bed each day is well worth the £6 per month ;)

Well I had a visit by a very nice virginmedia rep last friday, said there was no probs getting the cables to my house, filled out the forms and he said he'd get in touch before today....

well my installation charge was taken out on Wednesday and at the moment two workmen have just turned up and are busy digging up the pavement I think! They havent knocked or anything so may have to go and be nosey in a mo

I'm getting (I think as i've not heard back from the Rep) ... M broadband, XL tv package and L phone for £35.50.

Is that a good deal or not do you think?

Well I received a direct debit confirmation letter this morning, but have heard nothing else lol

Rang them and I get installed on the 4th April between 12 and 6, so that's pretty quick.

arrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! fricking virgin media, all singing all dancing, but i still cant get virgin central (the skyone replacement) to work, and now every movie channel requires a pin, no matter what time of day, or what movie, or even if you flick from one to another and back again!!!! for crying out loud i'm 30 bloody 5 years old, i don't have kids in the house, i want to watch what i want simply by changing channels, stop making my tv harder to acces than the contents of fort knox. i cant even switch the damn locks off.......:bang:

i'm about to turn jules winnfield and become a mushroom cloud laying muthafunsta

customers services say the V+ box is like a tumble dryer, you have to swtich it off everyday and "clean the lint out"? wtf are you gabbling about, it's apparantly a high tech bit of kit that should have no problem being on, or on standby 24/7 like my PC.....booooooo
the V+ box is more tempramental than a xbox 360 sitting on a hotplate...booooooo
PIN protection is here to stay and will become more heavy handed....boooooo
