General Value your B

General Value your B

Well mr powers I guess I would say .....

One million, gigillon, gizzillon dollars woooohhaaaa woooohhhhhaaaaaa wooooohhhhhaaaaa.

comparison price used by the LHD Car company (boy they are realistic)

Around 13 000 GBP for my barchetta here in Norway. She was out for sale a few weeks ago, got some calls, but I changed my mind. No clue what she's worth in Britain. ;) Divided by four maybe? Hehe..

Mine's worth f*ck-all after all the collisions she's been in :slayer:

Funnily enough just got back in from trawling garages, my B was purchased as a second (toy) car, unfortunately due to employment changes it has now been forced into the role of a daily commute car (140 mile round trip) it's doing it no good at all and the pragmatic solution is to change it for a new economical hatchback.
Best offer for trade-in so far is £1000, worst £750. This is for a 1998 with 115k kms on the clock, full history, leather, alloys, new tyres, hard-top etc.
I'm not stupid (or desparate) enough to accept that and know I could probably get £500 for the hard-top alone. I suspect what they mean is that they don't want a part exchange. So the options are to just buy another car anyway and either try to find somewhere to store the B or sell it privately.
Why do I always end up with the car that I want when it is impractical to keep it?

If someone was to offer me £4k i might be tempted

Ricky, I saw your Barchetta at Goodwood and if you were to sell it for £4K you will live to regret it. Hell, what can you get for £4K now, a worn out Focus? Come to your senses man!!! And I thought you Scots were canny!
Rich

Fair comment the B is priceless but what sort of money would you get if you sold it , look at lanciamans on ebay just now £5k , it has not been snapped up yet

The Barchetta is a hugely under recognised and underrated car in the UK

The fact that Lanciamans car has not been snapped up is prime evidence of this fact.

I would like 5k for mine with all the mods on her, I have paperwork for a load more then that I can tell you heheh. The only issue is she will never be up for sale at my B is worth way more to me then such a little amount of cash.

2004 - 26,000mls - FSH etc, etc,

Paid 6k for mine in the UK and it would have cost 11-12,000 euros over here, so the moral of the story is...........

........buy your car in the UK and sell it in Europe(y)

I bought mine for the equivalent of 8500 GBP here in norway 4 years ago, and by the looks of it, I can almost get my money back if it is in good shape!

I guess B's are as low in price now as they will ever get, due to it turning classic pretty soon now, so don't sell! yet...

Due to the fact that english people like to drive on the wrong side of the road, and the B isn't converted to left side driving, is probably driving prices there down.

The morale beeing: Buy in UK, Sell in the rest of europe.

hear hear

it actually is true for most cars.. the best thing to do is snap up a left hooker, keep it uk registered for as long as possible and then flunk it to an unsuspecting continental equivalent of a chav :)

No idea how much mine is worth, bit I was surprised by SirTainlyBarkin's comments. I'm commuting 440km to Luxembourg without any problem. I haven't measured the mpg for a while but last time I did I could get 40mpg if I drove gently.

The Barchetta does need servicing more frequently than a modern diesel, but it seems fairly solid in terms of reliability. Or, perhaps I've just been lucky.

Coming back to the main point of the theme: I reckon modified cars are a little harder to sell as you need an enthusiast to buy it and understand what you've done. A lot of people are put off by not understanding the changes or thinking they'll run into difficulties later. You certainly never get the money back that you spent!
