Hi Guys, This is my first post...

My idea is to apply putty to my existing parcel shelf, blending it into my rear speakers, giving the rear audio set up a custom look. I would then obviously primer the putty-ed parcel shelf and paint it. I was wondering if you guys may have any ideas/suggestions for this.

I realise that the parcel shelf may bend and the putty may crack, that is the only thing I need to research at the moment.

Any questions....Fire Away :)

Make a new one from MDF which will be much more sturdy and then use Fibreglass to make your shape.
You then smooth it off with fine body filler and cover or spray.

I personally have spent a bit of time doing the opposite too you and removing the shelf and supporting trim to smooth it all off.

You dont want rear speakers in such a design. The mids and highs should all be up front. Especially in a small car. Make the front loud enough and there will be no need for rear.

It's a MK1 Punto.

Apparently if its Vinyl based it will stretch instead of cracking. may give it a try.

and yeah an MDF one is always an option, that is probably plan B. I dont want a major component system either, i'm not planning on breaking the bank or my eardrums. :)

Using putty is a silly idea.
It will be much cheaper to make the the shelf from MDF as this will give you your stable base that you need.
The FG over your base will give you the shape and Finnish you want. (y)

Pretty much. Then remove the holding bar that clips the OE shelf in and build it into the new shelf so it clips the same way.
Then you may have to shape the rear part that the boot pushes against a little. I like to use a mini plain to get the basic shape. Then if your not handy with a router tear a strip of sandpaper and hold it in each hand and pull it side to side to round off the edges.

Trust me i wouldnt attempt to do the smoothing off like in your OP if the above is a daunting task.

Nah, it's ok i'm pretty handy with making stuff. cheers for your help. i'll post pics when i'm done :)
